Location, location, location!

Contributing to Google Maps is a real privilege to me and since the program began, I always thought this database is going to be really useful in the future for all humankind and which is becoming more and more accurate. I always find it fun and engaging when improving maps. What a great opportunity for all of us to share our knowledge.

When I was younger my passion were paper maps of all kind, I love my collection. That was before Google Earth was available and I was always passionate and excited about the upcoming “new and improved” version that came out every year. The beauty of Google Maps is that this update takes place instantly where there are ‘eyes’ on the ground. I find it very useful for contributors that when the phone’s location’s turned on, anyone can become a contributor to Google Maps by default as suggestions appear and encourage users to share their knowledge. Many users contribute by adding new locations and points of interests on the map, but not all users do that purposely or as accurate as they wished. That’s where I love to come in. The maps always end up with many added POI’s and some of them are, unfortunately, misplaced. Being able to spend hours on end browsing maps and satellite imagery turned out to be useful as I identified such places that are actually misplaced. Finding points of interests from the middle of the woods and out to sea, all the way to some of them misplaced by a couple of hundred yards is always a delight to edit and have them back, or for the first time, in their rightful spot.

Doing these kinds of edits, along with others gives me the personal satisfaction of helping out so many people using directions in google maps. The idea of a community effort to make the world a better place inspires me, I thank you guys for trusting your community to work on this and improve everyday lives.
