Location isn't showing up on map and on search bar

Hi guys. This is my first time encountering this situation. I would search for a specific place name with keyword of the place like a local given name of the place and got nothing. So I created a location for it and months later, I came by the location that I was looking for in the first place that someone has already created. Problem is, the place isn’t showing up on map and on search. Even after I type in the exact name of the place that the person created, it eont show up.

However, when I press on the “Restaurant” tag to show all restaurants nearby, it’ll show up.

Location that is not showing up for me: Padang Afternoon Food Court

Hi @NoelTan

I don’t see this problem. This Food Court is searchable well and even it is visible as an icon on the map.

You could clear the catch and data to see if the problem persists on your side or not. Also, test it in incognito mode.

Hi @NoelTan

I don’t have a definite answer, but some pointers for you to consider based on looking at the place via Google Streetview.

  1. Selecting the category Food Court may be over-ambitious considering it is a row of stalls. Also, it seems that some of the stalls have their own pins on Google Maps. Normally all the stalls would then be “located in” the food court. This has not been done.

  2. Quite a few of the stalls already carry “Padang” in their business names so this would need to be cleaned up to avoid having redundant information.

  3. Maybe the place would be better off having a single pin rather than two levels of pins. This depends on who owns the stalls: Are they independent or actually one business? And what serves the owners best?

  4. The place is not missing in the database.

  5. Google put in place a system to ensure that related categories are also used when Maps users make a text search.

  6. What pins are shown not only depends on the search terms but also on the search history of the Maps user. So different users will not see the same results.

  7. I would not consider this a big problem. Sometimes the best solution is just to forget about it and leave it to others or the business owners to fix.

Thx for the information. Also, I’ve noticed that Google map doesn’t accept some duplicate to be removed from the map. Any idea why? Like request isn’t accepted for some reason.
