Local Guides - What's behind the curtain? What does it mean to me and how it evolved?

With the beginning of my first trip alone in 2012, Google Maps was always at my side ?. It helped me organize my trip, shift plans spontaneously. Find out which local travel company I can trust and allowed me to share my favorite places with friends. I still like to checkout on GMaps where I was back then in Thailand…

Back then, I was only consuming content, saving the sights for my own private list and shared some places with my friends.

I always wanted to share my whole list with friends - and then finally, one day this feature was released!

Today, the whole community evolved a lot and GMaps is even available with some content at my super small remote village in the Northern Black Forest area in Germany (Check out my new Black Forest waterfall fun weekend list here). I am an active contributor and love to check out not only images and reviews by others but also to check profiles and get to know more about the people behind. To connect with people and travel together is how I love to spend days. So, these days I do not only contribute within my own community but also help people when I am travelling.

I do not want to describe a world without the contribution of so many people for the good, to support others and help guiding - This is Google Local Guides!

Let’s continue working on this awesome project of human kind.

Hi @marcboe ,

Welcome to Connect!

Keep in mind that one of the requirements for Connect Live 2020 was to share your post on the Local Stories board. Just to let you know, I’ve moved your post there.

Thank you very much for moving my post.
