My star photo gained almost 2 millions views during a few weeks in summer 2023, stalled at some point in fall 2023 and on Feb 7, 2024 was reduced to the numbers it had by the end of December 2023. I assume, it had some prominent position for a limited time and got pushed down later. Therefore the daily gain is so low now, it will never (or maybe in some years from now) increase again. If I remember correctly, @tony_b’s photo has a similar history.
Regarding the videos, I remember @TerryPG’s observation that many listing show a video on second position of the list and I believe, it is save to say, if there is any video posted to a listing, one will get the position 2 and gain more views than many of the photos.
Thank you @efcxp. The monthly Movers and Shakers leaderboards are certainly popular and I have to add so are the annual Movers and Shakers boards.
Yes Prasad does it again. I discovered the reason why and explained it here. The problem I have is that when preparing the leaderboads, I just don’t see these types of errors.

You will recall that in my opening comment I was concerned that I might have made an error and I meant to take a closer look at this then but unfortunately time was against me so thank you for prodding me on this as I’ve now had a deeper look. You are indeed correct and as you can see from the table and chart below, Tony made a error when posting his star views value in June. Sorry @TonysLists, I’ve had to dethrone you from the leading star photo Mover and Shaker title which must now rightfully pass to @claude_richard.
Indeed something very wonky has happened @JustJake and, as explained here, only after the prodding by @claude_richard have I been able to get to the bottom of it.
@SamanthaSheehy For this particular board, it’s probably got more to do with the FAQ #3:
To have data added here, you’d have to be active/reinstated for two months in a row. The other boards would not be impacted as easily, as long as you’re an active LG when the Boards get prepped.

Mein Starfoto stand auch lange still und jetzt kommt nach längerer Pause ab und zu, ich denke nach dieser 1% Regel, Aufrufe dazu.
Aufgrund unseres kleinen Städtchen kann ich natürlich nicht mit Aufrufen anderer, aus besonders beliebten Positionen, in Großstädten konkurrieren.
Ich bin zufrieden so wie es ist @AdamGT
Yes @WilfriedB and @AdamGT, my highest viewed photo is among my oldest photos, and therefore perhaps stale and attracting less current interest among Maps users. That makes it harder to meet the criteria for monthly updated view counts. On the other hand, all my videos are a lot more recent than my oldest photos, therefore still getting attention and being currently viewed regularly by Maps users.

I dont think this is an issue @claude_richard. I see counts updated every day, if I’m watching. It all depends when the increase on a specific photo or video exceeds 1% of its previous number.
New photos rarely get a chance to become the banner picture anymore. When look at the banners of many listing, they are all older than 2 or 3 years. Those old photos with already high numbers don’t increase, due to the 1% rule, while newer photos get pushed down in the list.
Have a look at this thread What about the top photos of a city? Although @flight2021 only referred to cities in his post, it seems to apply also to any other listings. Just have a look at some and see how old the banners are.
And let’s face it: a photo or video is not watched often because users like it but rather because it is place high on the list of media for a place which is often searched.
Thanks for the link to that thread @WilfriedB. Not sure if tagging always works as it should, as I’m not aware of any notification of the tag back then.
I guess this is in line with what @Annaelisa said about the videos being placed at #1 and #2 on the POIs. They will definitely be seen more often than old photos which have been pushed down to #25 or #47.
@AdamGT My star photo actually moved this week , Yes 1% but it’s numbers are so high I don’t expect much more. Normally every 3 months it moves and right on schedule it moved. My 2nd star photo moved 1%, 3 months ago and that was the first time it moved since March /24.
I actually had 6 of my top 25 photos move upwards this week, that’s unusual.
I also think because our star photos have so many views it’s hard to increase actual numbers and maybe that’s why so many of guides star photos are not moving quickly.

Firstly, I’m sorry to hear about your repeated removal and reinstatement into the Local Guides program and hopefully you have sought advice on this.
Now to your question. If your profile is deactivated or you are suspended, you would be excluded from the Leaderboards but only if this is the case at the time that the data for the Leaderboards is read. In your case you mentioned that you were deactivated yesterday which I calculate to mean around the middle of the week beginning on July 11. That being the case, as the data for the July Leaderboards was read at 0200 on Wednesday, August 2, 2025 (UTC), see readme FAQ #13, the reason that you’re not on the movers and shakers boards isn’t that your profile was deactivated yesterday. I should clarify here, even though I ran the numbers for the movers and shakers boards 5 days ago and possibly on the date that you were deactivated, they are based on your status and data as at the data read date, usually being one to two days in the new month.
As @JustJake mentions here, the movers and shakers boards are based on data in the last two consecutive months so if you are deactivated or suspended on the date the data is read for either of these two months then you would not qualify for possible inclusion on these boards. Of course to be included there are other requirements and these a detailed in the readme section.
