At the beginning of 2023, Maps removed the feature that allowed you to add photos to cities directly from Photos. Now I’m wondering what’s actually happened to a city’s top photos since then?
Take Berlin as an example. The top photo is from 2022. And that’s the case for all cities in the world. No photo is from the years 24 or 25. Will this continue forever? Will it always stay the same as in 2022? Paris, London, all in 2022
A while ago, I noticed many of my photos automatically appear under the “By you” (“Von mir”) tab at the city, county, region and even country pin. So far, I didn’t find any of those under the “All” tab, even when scrolling down many times. Having read your post here, I checked a couple of cities and I can confirm, didn’t find any photos newer than from 2023 among the top ten.
Thanks for the tag @WilfriedB and to @flight2021 I checked a couple of towns near me and also the City of Toronto and same results, a few from 2023 and the majority earlier.
Great question!
Top photos often reflect not just beauty, but also usefulness—clear landmarks, popular spots, or eye-catching compositions that help travelers and locals alike.
Sometimes it’s surprising which ones rank high, but it’s also a reminder that every perspective counts. Thanks for opening this thoughtful discussion!
Great question, @flight2021
I live in a small city in Indonesia, and I’ve recently checked about my city’s top photos. The newest top photo was unfortunately uploaded in 2022, and the newest video was uploaded slightly newer, in April 2023.
I checked my hometown and my photos are no longer featured. I check the couple other cities where I have posted pictures and did not find any featured there either. I did notice that in all of them there were some photos from just one or two years ago.
Good catch, @flight2021 & thanks for the tag, @WilfriedB. I’m having the same experience as you all. But it was nice to revisit the ‘By You’ tab on the cities I checked. It’s almost like when our timeline was on the browser version of the Map; the good ol days.
No, I had not. I’ll have to dig into it. I still have the timeline feature on the Mobile App to run that kind of macro view, though. I do miss being able to do that from my PC.
Yes I can confirm the same experience @WilfriedB. I just checked Bridgetown, Barbados and Kingstown, St Vincent. Mid-2023 is the newest in both islands.
