Local Guides managing couple of Businesses

  1. Hello LG Fellow,

Some of the LGs are also managing couple of business on Google map.

I understand that the contributions made under such business profile do not count for LGs points system.

Is it okay to mange couple of business with the same LG account?

Hope this is not the violation of any policy of LGs.

And, if this is not allowed then what is the process to unclaim such business and maintain the account as LG only without removing those businesses from the Google Map.

Appreciate your guidance.

Actually, it is not okay to manage a business on Google Maps with your Local Guides account.

It is all about avoiding conflicts of interests.

According to the Local Guides Program Terms and Conditions
Organizations, brands, and businesses are not eligible for the Program. So we should never mix commercial interests with those of being an independent/volunteer Local Guide.

The solution is to have another Google account (not signed up to the Local Guides Program) and use that Google account to manage businesses on Google Maps.

All the best

@MortenCopenhagen ,

So LG can add a place or business on Google Map but should not claim that business by her/his LG account.

Am I right?

And also @MortenCopenhagen if the business gets transferred to some other account, will the LG gets points and credits for the contributions she/he had already made while creating those businesses?

@Kumaarsantosh

Yes, you are correct. But if you are somehow associated with a business (you own it, or friends or family do), you should avoid creating it with your LG account. You will be a lot better off by creating and claiming it from a non-LG account.

Thanks @MortenCopenhagen . This explains the asks very clearly.

One last thing in this thread:

What about already created business with the LG account?

Should they be removed or let them be there and transfer the ownership to the non LG account? And, in future add such business only through non LG account.

@Kumaarsantosh

You do not own businesses on Google Maps just because you added them.

Hence, you will not see the number of places you added go down when the rightful owner claims one of the pins you added.

Thanks a lot @MortenCopenhagen for your patience and rightful approach to explain the topic.

Great feeling :muscle:

God bless!

@Kumaarsantosh

There is no need to remove businesses you created with your LG account in the past (and you probably can not).

But you should make sure that businesses you claimed gets transfered to a not-LG account.

There is a big difference between creating/adding a pin and claiming/owning a business on Google Maps.

Thank you so much @MortenCopenhagen .

This conversation shall surely help LGs to sort out queries regarding LG account vs. business profile.

Hey here @MortenCopenhagen

I manage my business on this local guide account is it not good is that you trying to say please find explain us more about this how bad this for local guide account and more.

Hi @Kumaarsantosh

Well, I think we need to clarify a few things.

When we say account we basically mean “Google Account” (our account associated with an email address).

There are no issues in managing a claimed place with the same account that you use as a Local Guide, and I know this by direct experience, @MortenCopenhagen . @devtheguide is correct in this

As a claimed business can be managed exactly with the same App (Google Maps) the only thing that is important is to manage the listing in the dedicate section (Listings that you own).

What the Local Guides Program Terms and Conditions says is that: “Organizations, brands, and businesses are not eligible for the Program.”. It means that the profile that you use as a Local Guide should not be promoting / mentioning a business, and of course you must follow an appropriate conduct, like not reviewing your own business (conflict of interest) and do not promote your business when you contribute as a Local Guide.

Hope this can clarify the matter.

In addition, @Kumaarsantosh ,please note that I have unaccepted the “solution” given by you, because the reply is NOT the solution of an issue, nor the correct reply of your question. It is correct that a solution should be flagged to help others with the same question, so the answer should be the right one. For more details please read: How do I mark comments as solutions?

Thanks @ErmesT for the clarification.

So there is no harm to claim and own a business with same Google account as of LG account with caution of not promoting/reviewing the self owned business.

Actually the option to ‘Accept as Solution’ should be disabled in case of the reply.

This is my suggestion @ErmesT .
