When I arrived to Mexico City 4 years ago I had no idea of what I should do with my life
. I came here with only 1 bag and I slept on the floor of a friend’s house
. Beign an immigrant ain’t easy and even more when I used to love my previous job as a journalist. In Mexico I was able to find a job assisting in a pet shop
and I began to visit gastronomy markets only for fun
, despite not being able to pay for any foods
.
Two years passed and my then boyfriend invited to eat at a Brazilian meat restaurant. When we finished eating
, Google Maps invited me to write a review of the restaurant, I wrote it and I gave it 4 starts.
Afterwards, after said boyfriend had broken my heart
, I stopped writing reviews. That was until I moved in to a new neighborhood with a friend and we stumbled upon a small restaurant called Lennon´s Kitchen . Said friend and I were its first customers, I wrote a review and it was one of my most seen reviews
.
Since then I go around the city looking for new and cute places where to eat and have fun.… ![]()
I have eaten in Bolivia, Chile, Argentina, Colombia, Cuba, Costa Rica, Peru and Guatemala.B**ut it was in Mexico where I learned to really love food…**And became an a chicken girl once.
Even, i became friends with the owners of the restaurants and one ofsaid owners (A pastry chef) began to date me! ![]()
And thus, through eating, my heart
got mended with pastry cream and strawberries
. While I was going up as a Local Guide, I applied for a Mexican magazine as a writer for gastronomic reviews. My editor read my reviews (Which I had included in my resume) and during the interview she decided that I approached the subject with enough humility
. That way I became a writer o my favorite topic: Food! ![]()
How exciting! Now my Friends call me to ask me for recommendations. Every day I discover cute places, from Greek to Peruvian, Thai, Nigerian and Subsaharian food, food for kitties, delicious vegan food and even alien food! It is true that my weight went up by like 20 pounds
, but it is also true that I am way happier tan four years ago, when I wasn’t even able to afford my own food
. I even learned to cook! I am so proud of myself! ![]()
However, I think what hits deep for me, is that being an immigrant is knowing that you do not have a home to return to, but I also believe that becoming a guiding has aided me understand that now Mexico City is my home, and I know that now I can recommend which places of my home are the best to eat… And love.
