Hello Local Guides Family,
We were recently asked to come on a informative & Fun show named “Lively Weekends” which airs on Masala TV, the most popular Food Channel in Pakistan. This show is a big hit among women of all ages in Pakistan, India, and Bangladesh. It has a huge online fanbase, with 6.5 million followers on Facebook and One million subscribers on YouTube , mostly female viewers.
This was a great opportunity for us to share the messages of the Local Guides Program with the female viewers. These viewers make up about half of the total population, but when we look at the representation in the Local Guides Program, there are not too many female Contributors involved from my country.
Rizwan Shah ( @DrFoodieOfficial ) and I were invited to this show, but the confirmed part was that both of us could talk a lot about connecting with Google Maps and local guides, but we were both completely clueless when it came to cooking food
But the theme of the show was that cooking and discussions on any one topic go hand in hand, so having an expert chef for this program was very important.
However, the solution to this challenge was right in my own home, meaning my daughter Ayesha Misidia, who is not only a certified chef but has also won several silver and bronze medals in national and international Culinary Championships. And accompanying my daughter was her mother, my wife, who was there to guide and support her.
The show’s time was Sunday at 4:30 pm, but we received instructions to arrive earlier there than the scheduled time. This was because we needed some time in the makeup room at the Hum TV Network, and then afterwards, the ladies had to set up their recipes and ingredients on the table for the live show.
So the show started on time at 04:30 pm Pakistan time with Kiran Khan’s traditional style who was hosting this show at Lively Weekends Masala TV.
And along with that, Kiran revealed to keep the suspense that today we have a conversation with the contributors of Google Maps and Local Guides who not only add new businesses on Google Maps, but are also working on Urdu translations through Google’s other forums to keep things engaging.
So, they both began their cooking, and the show’s host was also engaged with them for almost 30 minutes. After a break, it was our turn to have a chat.
Local Guides Conversation:
Our conversation began with the significance of Google Maps, how it’s bringing positive changes to people’s lives, and how we’re benefiting from it.
Rizwan Shah said that all the restaurants and small businesses you see on Google Maps are not added by Google itself through satellites or any other means, but by people like us. In other words, Google Maps relies on users to submit information about businesses and places. This information is then verified by Google before it is published on the map.
This helps to ensure that the information on Google Maps is accurate and up-to-date. It also helps to make Google Maps a more comprehensive and useful resource for users.
I have added to Rizwan’s point by saying that if you have any food-related business and if you add complete details of your business along with its location on Google Maps, it provides you with a great opportunity to appear in Google search results and enables you to grow your business.
Furthermore, we also explained that if you wish, you can add all the businesses in your area to Google Maps through the “Add a missing place” feature. While you may not directly benefit personally from this, the business you add to Google Maps could greatly benefit. This can also be considered a form of social service from your end.
We also discussed Local Guides Connect, particularly in the Food and Drinks category, where Contributors can share their experiences with food and drinks. Not only experiences, but if they have any unique recipes, they can share them with other local guides. This way, we can inform people from other countries about our cuisine and culture.
Another thing we talked about is the Translation category in the Google Crowdsource app. This allows people to assist in enhancing our national language in Google Translate and for Google Assistant.
We also gave Program anchor Kiran Khan a Google Crowdsource t-shirt as a souvenir, so that she remembers our participation on Lively Weekends ![]()
On the other side, Ayesha got all her cooking done and put the food on the table. Honestly, the Bao Buns and Cake were really tasty, but I couldn’t eat a lot of it because we had to share with the Masala TV team.
Here I’m sharing the original recipes of both amazing Korean Bao buns and Tres leches Cake, try it at your home if you want to get a unique taste.
