The challenge, in my area (Dumaguete, Philippines), is that the streets’ major through-ways are all time-of-day one-way streets. Google Maps Directions are all-but-guaranteed to send you the wrong way on a one-way street. I can provide accurate input, but Google does not currently accept them.
Also, what are effective solutions to LGCTM issues? What actually works (e.g. “Mark as permanently closed”)? Is a local-guide’s input more effective than others in actually getting a ghost establishment removed or updated?

Where I live, there are so many duplicates and closed places which are visibly cluttering the maps,
I will be taking on the challenge to at least clean up the area around my home (Maybe more) as I explore and update the maps during walks and trips.

This all sounds great, thank you @JanVanHaver ! Do you or does anyone else by chance know why I have so many old starred places on my map that I cannot get rid of? They are just random addresses. I think they are things that I either starred years ago, or businesses that have closed? I always try to instar them and then the next time I open the app they always come right back. I’m hoping to get rid of all of these phantom stars. Thanks for any help!!

@Marianc420 , I did have mulptime stared places with random addresses but all were either someone’s address or a closed business. I have not faced the issue of them reappearing after removal. Maybe try deleting them after clearing the cache? clearing the cache had removed a few bugs for me in the past.

Es genial, también sería bueno incluir en ese proyecto el tema de las fotos que no tienen nada que ver o con mala calidad. Gracias.

Thank you for the lovely post @JanVanHaver . I never new of this local guides connect page where there is so much to learn regarding what I am doing since last few years. I have been ( on my own) cleaning the map of spam, adding new places, removing closed ones in my city of Mumbai. And its a task as so many spam and duplicates exist. And as soon as you manage to remove one, another pops up. Thanks again and I would like to be a part of your initiative of #LGCTM in any way the initiative needs me.

I find this “Local Guides Clean The Map” (LGCTM) initiative by Google to be an excellent effort towards improving the accuracy of Google Maps, especially for local businesses. But I wonder how it handles cases where the business does exist, but not in the form or location indicated on the map.
In my country, I often come across businesses that are tagged within residential apartment buildings. While the business owners live there, they certainly don’t have their bicycle shop or fishing rod store within their apartment. So while the business exists, the map location is misleading.
Can we report these as non-existent businesses, even though they technically do exist, just not in the form or location suggested? I believe such misleading information could be just as problematic for map users as businesses that have actually closed down. It would be great if the LGCTM initiative could address this issue as well.

Hi JanVanHaver
I tried number of times to suggest that my home address direction 11 Lord Street Fawkner Victoria 3060 in google map appear incorrectly and I also gets points and appreciation emails but nothing has been done up till now. I am finding very difficult to guide my guests to reach at my place, similarly the house where the google map is taking incorrectly finds very annoying.

Cleaning up Google maps is a great idea. One of the most frustrating issues when trying to make corrections is Google tries to make everything into a business. I volunteer for Oregon State Parks and your questions/systems don’t seem to be able to deal with parks or campgrounds well. Asking if they serve food doesn’t make sense. I keep trying however.

Hey @JanVanHaver , I usually convey if the place is shut or moved to another location as I came to know because as a nomad and a foodie wanderer I explore many places. And sometimes it just becomes very sad thing for me when u are driving long mile to find the place with the help of google maps and that is moved to other location.
and Also , I review the same accordingly.
