LOCAL GUIDES & AFROBEATS

LOCAL GUIDES & AFROBEATS

Cameroon

Cameroon

June 13, 2020 @ 14:00 (WAT)

(VIRTUAL)

Before COVID19, everyone was free to do the things they love and what makes them happy, including attending parties, going to clubs or even karaoke bars and places with live music. As local guides, people trust us to recommend the most happening places and the best things to do in a particular location on Google maps. In the past months, a lot of awesome virtual meetups have occurred with so much knowledge exchange, and this meetup has the same objective of keeping us informed about other lifestyles but this time, with so much fun to catch! Music has a strong effect on emotions. There is something about music that seems to bring us closer to each other and help us come together as a community. On a quest to keep learning and exchanging our cultures and lifestyle as Local Guides, music is inevitable when the word “culture” is included and so we would be focusing on Afrobeats this time.

ACTIVITIES

1.Welcome and Introduction

  1. Share your favourite music genre/favourite Afrobeat

  2. Talk about places on Google maps where people go to listen to music

  3. Creating lists of all the best Afrobeat clubs you know

  4. Where on Google Maps do concerts/festival take place

6.“Do you know this Music” game

7.Another music game

8.Vibing to some good Afro Jams mixed by DJ Alffiiy

PRE-EVENT ACTIVITY On this meetup’s connect post, comment with the answer to - What is your number 1 Afro song (title and artist)? We would try to include all in the DJ session during our call.

Hi @Lily_Asongfac

This meet up sounds interesting.

though i am not a fan of Afrobeats but I love listening to music especially those curated in native language.

My best music legend is a Hausa native singer from Northern part of Nigeria. He is late Mamman Shata

his most notable song is “Bakandamiya” https://youtu.be/xGSmoGNIJ08

I hope you have enjoy this song.

looking forward to learn from others at the meet up.

regards

Wow this is a Meetup I am so attending.

Let me add reminder in my calendar so I don’t forget.

Meanwhile as for songs I could love to hear, there are too many I can’t mention them All … But I’ll say

“Geng” by Mayorkun

“Fia” by Davido

“Ojuelegba” by Wizkid

“Jerusalema” by Master KG

The above should play …let me allow others pick their songs too lest they say I’m too selfish :grinning: :grinning:

@Sagir You will find this song on the mixer, I hope you are ready to sing for us in Hausa. That is actually very nice music, my lineage from my mom Fulani and dad Serahule /Soninke both have this type of singing which is just beautiful
