Local Guide (Level 6) but dropped to Level 5 (ERROR) - missing review counts

Hi guys, I have just recently reached level 6 on Local Guide (also received an email from Google); but on the next day, i am suddenly reverted to level 5.

Under Reviews section: I am supposed to have completed close to 82 reviews; but the system is showing a count of only 6 reviews and 0 likes and 0 views.

Under Photos section: I have 128 photos (inconsistent with Reviews section) and 52.643 views

Is there anyone who can help me here?

@yewwaik17 Our points and levels occasionally may adjust itself due to some circumstances.

We may sometimes lose points/levels if some of our contributions don’t meet the contribution policies.

Google uses a variety of information, some automated and some manual, to determine if a review or photo follows the Maps user contributed content policies

Reviews or photos that don’t follow the policies are marked private; reviews are not deleted however. When this happens, it won’t be shown publicly, hence points are not awarded for it. This can happen even after sometime after our specific contribution date/time.

The other situation is, points and levels are calculated on batch processes in the backend, and different sections in Maps app may read from a different source in the database which may have different update process/timings. These batch process may change from time to time, and at times (although not often), may provide some possibly inaccurate changes in points or stats (we usually only notice when points drop, rather than when points increase). But over time, the system will remedy itself as updated batch processes are run in the backend.

There is not much we can do for this except if we as an entire community see a system wide (ie for a majority group of users) outage or change, then we can report for Google to look into it.

In the mean time, I would suggest to keep contributing good quality contributions and don’t worry too much about occasional small fluctuations in points. As long as we keep contributing consistently, out points and levels will slowly go up.

Just keep monitoring this for a few weeks and report back here if you feel the issue persists.

Regarding your issue, I can see that your number of reviews is incorrect. This is a known issue, and it is usually self solving.

I can also see that you have zero answers.

Of course a technical issue is possible, but in any case I want to inform you about the most common reasons for points to drop:

If on My Activity your setting is different from this one here below, your answer are automatically deleted on a frame window

Points may be also deducted if your contribution is determined to be in violation of the content policy. Contributions that violate our policies do not count toward your Local Guides level, ans indicated by @StephenAbraham

@yewwaik17 I recommend you check your reviews and images… my reviews, lists and images have been systematically disappearing :sleepy:

I also have experienced this in the last 3 days. The “counting” for ALL my reviews vanished but the reviews themselves remained untouched. I lost all the points as well, but not the progress toward the reviewer badge.

Today, the points and the review count is back, but all progress toward a reviewer badge has been zeroed out.

It’s definitely a technical problem. The comment regarding “batched” processing makes sense, but it is weird to have things disappear and reappear. My guess is that Google is making system changes and either things still have to catch up, or there are bugs that need to be worked out. Hopefully it will workout on its own.

I think the fact is the system is highly buggy. I finally got my review count back; and I’m also back on Level 6.

However, I say that the system is buggy because the counts on the contribution breakdowns are inconsistent/erroneous/ just badly communicated as a product.

  1. I have posted 3 videos from 1 place; but under Unlock Director Badge - it says 0/3

  2. I have 59k views on photos, but it says I have 52.6k views under Novice Photographer badge (why is not updated OR inconsistent)?

  3. Why do I have only 4 ratings? When I have done 75 reviews and ratings?

  4. Why do I have 11.795 views on my reviews and when I have 59k views on my photos? How does the count here work?
