Lists for megamall. Navigation through the shopping center.

There are different objects on the map that are difficult to correspond to a single tag. One such object is a megamall. A typical solution to the problem in this case is as follows: a megamall scheme is loaded, tags of shops, cafes, game zones are placed on each layer. The user can see the tags of his interest after he sets the floor of the center. But, what if the megamall is very large?

Tags of huge megamall on Google Maps.

Viewing each floor, a huge number of tags can put a potential buyer in front of a difficult choice. Thematic lists for stores in the megamall partially solve this problem. For example, lists of clothing shops, shoe stores, computer stores, cafes, as well as lists of stores located on the same floor, can facilitate navigation during shopping. Such lists can be compiled by a Local Guide who knows the shopping center well and a Local Guide who has a general concept of the shopping center and uses the plan on the official website of the mall (you can do this by staying at home and not violating quarantine).

Famous stores and famous brands in the megamall.

Here are some examples of such lists made for the largest mall in Europe - Aviapark, located in Moscow and Zelenopark located in the Moscow County: Aviapark Computer Stores, Aviapark Shoe Stores, Zelenopark Clothing Stores.

In conclusion, I would like to say that Local Guides are awarded for publishing the list: creating a public list - 10 points, description of one tag in the list - 5 points. You can select your photos uploaded to tags as tag photos in the list. Helpful tips to make a list in Google Maps application can be found in detail in the next post.

Share your ideas for making lists for megamalls as Google Maps experts and as ordinary shoppers. I will be waiting for your comments with interest.

Hi @ghhost158 megamalls and other large shopping precincts are usually and best managed through a partnership with Google via https://www.google.com.au/maps/about/partners/indoormaps/ to allow them to keep their own data up to date.

Shopping malls are under constant flux with with places moving around, closing, re-opening.

Hi @ghhost158

I agree with @PaulPavlinovich that Local Guides should probably not do as you are suggesting: Making lists of shops inside malls. My main concern is that Local Guides probably will not be able to update such lists in the long run. As volunteers, we can easily lose interest over time, and shops come and go really quickly in the malls that I know. Also, I think Google is not making it very easy for mall guests to find our list. Meaning you could be wasting your time.

But I think your idea is very well worth discussing. Please, elaborate on what kinds of lists you are making/want to make.

And could frequent pics of the official shop index + floorplan displayed publicly in the malls not be easier and more useful?

Cheers

I think it would be really helpful if you would move this post to the How-to section where it fits better. Just edit your post again, select the new Topic at the top, and save it again.

How-to is the section where questions are asked, answered, and discussed.

Thank you.

Thanks @PaulPavlinovich for your post and for your link. I read with interest about the possibility of displaying plans of complex objects on Google Maps. I think that the system in Australia and the system of building plans for Google Maps in different countries are similar. And loading plans on the map is more convenient for owners and shareholders of the building. But, if this schema is already loaded, then tagging, photographing and creating lists can be done by local experts (theoretically the owner of the mall can place tags as well). Very often the malls have their own official websites and they contain classifications (indexes) of stores. And if there is such a classification in the Google Maps application, in my opinion, it will be better for all shopping lovers

As for the quick changes within megamalls @MortenCopenhagen : stores will be closed - tags will be removed - it will remain to slightly correct the corresponding list. Will a list really make navigation easier? On the one hand, scrolling through a list is, in my opinion, easier than looking at a floor plan where some tags are visible and others not, on the other hand, another navigation tool is a plus.

Megamalls are part of the urban space @MortenCopenhagen therefore I place this story in Local Stories , and vice versa, a story about a shopping center is a story about a city, although there are reasons in your words @MortenCopenhagen .

Inside maps are only done in partnership with the mall management @ghhost158 you can certainly point it out to them.

Hi @ghhost158

You asked: “Will a list really make navigation easier?”

My answer: “I don’t think so!”

If you want ladies’ clothing-shops or something else, then zoom in on Google Maps and search for the category. This works also in Malls given that the stores have been added to Google Maps and the positions are correct. This also works on Indoor floorplans. And adjacent/related categories are included automatically. I believe this is a lot easier, automatically updated, and this does not require separate and on-going maintenance from Local Guides or Mall staff.

The mall plan is done by the shareholders and uploaded to Google Maps @PaulPavlinovich . Tags can be made by the owner of the megamall, the ownerѕ of the stores in the megamall, Local Guides. Tag lists will most likely be done by Local Guides as I understand this process.

In this case @MortenCopenhagen , these lists are just another option to navigate.

Local Guides can certainly attempt edits on shops in Malls @ghhost158 when the information is wrong.

Note that when a business is either claimed and managed via GMB via the owner, or is managed as part of a mall via the method I mentioned earlier its unlikely that Local Guides edits will be applied as they are managed.

@PaulPavlinovich The creation and editing of a tag in the megamall depends on the tag fields, and if a user with a Google account claims business ownership corresponding to the tag, then he can get editing priorities. But, as far as lists are concerned, any user can create a list from existing tags (in the mall). And besides, such lists can be treated more simply: create a private list and use it individually as a creator.

I’m certainly aware of how lists work @ghhost158 thank you. I’m discussing the actual Maps entries, without them the list entries can’t exist because they are based on the Maps entries themselves.
