All hail Liberia hail all hail,

All hail Liberia hail all hail

This glorious land of liberty shall long be ours…

These are the opening words of our national Anthem here in Liberia. On that fateful day, those freed men and women arrived on Providence Island from the United states of America, The hapiness, the joy and freedom of being free from slavery and chain, from forced labour and imigration without choice. They were happy to be back to the African soil, where they were forcefully taken away. That is many many many years ago now,in the early 1800.It didnt take long before they declared themselves a republic. exactly on 26th july 1847 The country Liberia came into existence. it was never colonised and that made it the oldest declared republic in Africa. The Americo-Liberia called the Congo people were the elites and literate then. As a result of their enlightenment from the states they started the leadership of this country.

Photo taken by permissions from his old residence now a museum in Ashmun Street Monrovia Liberia. He also has a statue,up the hill Ducor all in the city of Monrovia Liberia. Now let’s talk about Liberia. It’s a very small country of about 5.5 million people. Liberia is the most friendly and welcoming country I have been to along the coast of west Africa. The official language is English but in general we speak a very different form of English really. It’s called Kolokwa ! It is a very distorted and unofficial form of English. That’s what we speak here and we are proud of it but it can be hard to follow. All west African English countries have a form of pidgin(Unofficial English). Nevertheless every now and then, you’ll find someone who can speak proper English.

It’s also the only country in west Africa who operates on 2 currencies. The United States dollars $ and the Liberia currency called Liberty $ the same sign. As a result visiting the country for the first time you will not have any problems with transactions if you have the USD $. One big thing is Liberians are very fashionable people. lots of second hand clothes, shoes bags, sneakers etc. selling around the city makes the city quite noisy busy and very very interesting

Monrovia is the capital city of Liberia. It’s a very well planned city really. I had a nice walk around today to get some shots of the streets of thr city incase anyone gets iny

It’s not too developed now in terms of development but it’s habitable and enjoyable. Night life thrives alot here for those interested in that. We have very nice clean ans enjoyable beaches. They are not too far from the city either.

We have very interesting and historical places to visit here. There is Providence Island. Just a little Island 15 minutes walk from Monrovia. There is the statue of the little ship that brought the freed men and women from America. There is The national heritage site for Liberian history . There is the J.J Robert Monumentsl. Up Ducor hill . That’s another place to visit. It’s location makes it possible to see a lovely view of Monroe city and other outskirt towns.

Transportation here is quite easy. We have commercial taxi and buses. We also have the motorbike and tricycles. Those are the easiest and cheapest form of commercial transport around in the city.

Funfact about Liberia.

  • It’s176 year old this 26th Of July 2023
  • It shares birthday month with connect
  • The main and most common staple food is rice and various sauces.

Great post as always @SholaIB

Glad to have learned some history about Liberia and hopefully the country and its people will continue to prosper.

What do you think would be the next step for the city of Monrovia to evolve but still keep its heritage?

What a wonderful history lesson, @SholaIB , thank you for sharing and tagging me.

Unfortunately, much of the history we’re taught in the US avoids a lot of the uncomfortable periods. The result is that we miss out in learning about the results from the eventual enlightenment of our government. Give my best to your Liberian neighbors, and celebrate your ancestor’s hard journey to create such a wonderful chapter in Africa’s history. Happy Independence Day!

Thanks for tagging @SholaIB the post was very detailed about Liberia.

By the way, our Independence Day in Indonesia will come next month on the 17 and August.

Thank you

Hello @SholaIB Thank you for putting this information together for us. Very interesting indeed. From what I have read the slave returnees were largely rejected by the locals. What are the people and demographic like now there?

Hello @Lukas_1

Well those are just archaeological things and old history. I don’t think that would prevent them from developing.

There actually isn’t anymore talk of these lately. I have just made a little research as a result of the upcoming 176th independence and that’s why I shared this. Thanks for your input on this.

Have a good day

Cheers
