#LGCTM Things you can do: Report irrelevant photos

In google map many irrelevant photos that not relevant to the said place have been uploaded. It is very helpful if we report against those irrelevant photos of a particular place to google.

Steps:

1) Open the wrong photo of Known Place

  1. Click on Select Three Dot and click Report a problem

  2. Select the option from below

4) Give mail id and click submit.

Thank you for sharing with us @biswa_ju1

We can report for spam photos through that process but it takes long time to remove.

Yeah exactly but sometime it might take so time. May be Google maps has no care for that. Even I face this problem many times. So do you have any idea how can we remove them ? @JanVanHaver @RadieN

Not sure about what you want to tell us here @biswa_ju1 .

I really appreciate the #LGCTM started by @JanVanHaver , but I think that our post must be clear and not confuse the Local Guides

There is a big difference between deleting unwanted photos and Report a photo for removal.

The help page is very clear in this: Add, remove, or share photos and videos

The procedure that you are showing here is related Report a photo on Google Maps. The procedure flag the photo for removal, while from the title of your post I understand that you can remove directly the photo.

Also unwanted is different from wrong. I believe that you should check and correct your post, to avoid to give wrong information.

Also, this is not a “tip and tricks”, this is just the standard procedure

Thank you

Hi @biswa_ju1

I have to agree with @ErmesT .

Also it might be relevant for you to know that reporting pictures as spam or for privacy reasons is much faster in the Android app than on desktop like shown in your pictures.

I am adding an extra note @biswa_ju1 about the meaning of “unwanted” or “wrong” photos

Please check this post about the kind of photos to upload in Google Maps: What photos should I share on Google Maps?

It is responsibility of every local guide to make sure that he’s uploading the correct photos, with good quality, avoiding duplicate and near duplicate.

This will save a lot of time in reporting photos. Please check your profile

Hello @biswa_ju1 ,

Thank you for taking part in @JanVanHaver ‘s helpful campaign Local Guides Clean The Map (#LGCTM) and creating this post. Please note that I have removed some of the screenshots for privacy reasons. Keep in mind that do not encourage Local Guides to share private information publicly on Connect in order to protect yours and other users’ privacy and safety, as it’s explained in our Community policy. I have also slightly edited the title of the post so that it can be even more helpful for the Local Guides and not to be confusing as @ErmesT mentioned.

@ANKIT_SHARMA , thanks for tagging me. I just wanted to let you know that currently this is the only procedure for reporting irrelevant photos on Google Maps. More information you can find in the article Add, remove, or share photos and videos.

Hello @biswa_ju1 ,

Thank you for preparing this post with tips on how to prevent poor photos occurring uploaded on Google Maps.

Thank you for supporting @JanVanHaver 's campaign Local Guides Clean The Map, too.

Thank you @ErmesT , for giving your opinion on the tips shared.

In addition to what @RadieN said, I would like to encourage you @biswa_ju1 , to possibly cooperate with ermest in order to improve your post to be even more helpful for other Local Guides.

That’s not accurate @MortenCopenhagen

On the desktop also we can do that equally fast like on the phone, and that was the subject of my post in the last week.

PS. This simplified version of flagging a photo on a desktop was available for the past two years!

@RadieN @JanVanHaver the article you’ve suggested Add, remove, or share photos and videos I have read it but I found that , according to this article we can remove our own uploaded photos not others wrong photos.

My question is , If someone upload wrong photos(or personal photos) to a place on Google maps then how can we remove them ?

The procedure is represented in this post @ANKIT_SHARMA , and at the end of the help page.

BTW, you cannot remove photos posted by others, but only Report a photo or video on Google Maps
If you see something in Google Maps that is inappropriate or inaccurate, you can let us know.

Search for a place or tap it on the map.
Scroll to the photos section, then pick the photo you want to report.
On the bottom right, tap Report

ok @ErmesT so I have only one way of report. but it takes so time. BTW thank you so much for your time.

Of course it take time, @ANKIT_SHARMA , because every report need to be verified. What if I wake up this morning and decide to remove all your photos?

That’s why we can only report, for contents not uploaded by us. BTW, please avoid to upload selfies. This is one of the contents that should be reported.

What photos should I share on Google Maps? will give you some more indications, and you already know how to remove the photos, Isn’t it?

Thank you for supporting the #LGCTM project by writing this post @biswa_ju1 . I have to agree, however, withe @ErmesT that it would be nice if you could make some changes to the post - not meant to criticize you, but rather to support you, as we all had to “learn by doing” at some point:

  • This is not really a tips/trick, but a standard feature; but it does make sense to also point to these, so I suggest to make a separate ‘sublist’ of those titled “#LGCTM Things you can do: [YOUR ENTRY]”
  • “Delete unwanted photos” does not correctly describe the point you want to make; “Report wrong pictures” or “Report inappropriate pictures” would be more accurate
  • Is that your actual email address in the last screenshot or just a fake email address? If it is your real one, please blur it out in the screenshot Was already done by a moderator
  • The layout of the post is not very clear becasue the screenshots are shown at the largest format with only very short texts in between. Perhaps you can try to use the ‘Medium’ size for the screenshots and insert a blank line here and there to make it clearer which text belongs to which image? Or number the steps you describe?

When some eidts have been made, I will then include a link to your post in the main #LGCTM post. Thanks for understanding.

Hello @ErmesT ,

Thank you for your comment.

Hi @RadieN ,

Thanks to you for making my post more meaningful by editing.

Hi @MashaPS ,

I have edited my post as per the suggestion of @ErmesT

Hi @JanVanHaver ,

I have also changed my post title to “#LGCTM Things you can do:”

Thanks all of you for your comments.

@biswa_ju1 I finally came round to adding the link to this post in the main post. Thank you for making the requested edits!

Hi @AbdullahAM ,

Inspired by the point raised by you I did a test yesterday. When I went over the pictures from a local restaurant I found between 20 and 30 pictures from a private function helt at this restaurant. They were clearly take by a pro photographer but they all also clearly showed the faces of people attending.

I took the time to flag them all for Privacy concern via the Android app. Today I revisited and found that only 2 pictures with faces were left. So I’m happy to report that action was taken very quickly (within 24 hours) from Google side.

Cheers

I have made a many many reports about irrelevant photos and photos that are in wrong place, but in my experience, no one has deleted the photos, so it seems frustrating to report photos that are in the wrong place or otherwise irrelevant to that particular destination. I have expressed these for months. I hope that there will be a chance soon.

Question: Will the contributor be notified? Maybe that’s who deleted them quickly?

Also, maybe the speed a photo is removed is location dependent?

Hi @biswa_ju1 thanks for yor Work. A year ago I placed a proposal in order to help Local Guides to clean wrong pictures.
As you say on this post, clean a single picture takes too many clicks. Imagine yo have to erase 20, 50, or 100 pictures that are from another place…

My suggestion was (and is) to have an option only for Local guides, to show all the pictures, and you have just to select all the photos that have to be erased at once. There is not risk at all because is just a proposal that has to be revised.
Best regards. Looking forward to meet you at next Connect Live
