Let's make the world more accessible for Girls and women.

If I ask you, What do you mean by accessibility? For me, accessibility means making things accessible to all people (whether they have a physical disability or not.) In this Local Guides program, we have a couple of Accessibility Champion like @ermest@Jane_B @Jesi

Today I am going to talk about making the world more accessible for Girls and women and our responsibility as an active citizen and Local Guides. We are the Local Guides not we are guiding people on Google Maps. We are also guiding people in different global causes, such as environmental issues through Clean the World initiatives, through different community challenges.

When COVID 19 has started, I and @SumaiyaZafrin initiated an initiative for providing free sanitary napkins at the doorsteps. After working on this project for 9 months I have got a few real-life experiences that show how inaccessible this world is for the girls and women. Lack of education is one of the major causes of inaccessibility for girls and women.

Do you know that, It is estimated that 132 million girls and young women are not in primary or secondary school. (Source- GEM 2020) Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, For girls, being out of school increases the risk of child marriage, teen pregnancy, gender-based violence, sexual exploitation, and child labour. This is very alarming for the world and this is why I am writing this post.

We are the Local Guides, we show people the way, So we can help the world to ensure that every girl receives a quality education.

If girls and boys had equal access to education, the chance of violence and conflict would decrease by 37%. Even a 1% increase in the number of women completing secondary education can increase a country’s economic growth by 0.3%.

If we look at our Local Guides program we can see our mother of the Local Guides @TraciC and most of the Googlers in Local Guides programme are women including Connect Moderator. That means_Every girl and every woman has huge potential._ We just need to make the world more accessible for them.

As an Education campaigner, I have been working for women education for a long time and I want the support from my Local Guides fellows to spread the message for ensuring the education accessibility for the girls and women.

Let’s make the world more accessible for Girls and women. In the end, we are all equal.

Pavel,

I am in Burleson, TEXAS!! and I am a woman w/a BS in Accounting and an MBA (Masters in Business Administration), (of course I went through grade school, middle school and high school) unfortunately, the “school” I attended was found to be NOT accredited, and so, not sure anymore if my credentials are viable…I have the knowledge, and the paper, just not sure if the “paper” is still useful! hehe

I did not attend college until my son was in grade school (I was a late in life college student - I did not go to college after high school like a lot of my counter parts, I was probably in my late 30’s early 40’s). So, it is NEVER too late for an education! I applaud you for the work (?) you are doing! Do you have a website? Something I could share on THIS side of the world? Anything? Keep up the great work! Happy New Year!! (only 12 days late!! hehe) kat
