Let's Go Bananas - Variants from around the world

Hello, dear @Ewaade_3A ,

Being a Keralite, we have a wide variety of Bananas & plantains…

This one is very famous… We call it “Nenthra Pazham” (slightly difficult to pronounce…right?)
Very healthy food; the powder of raw or fruit is prepared as baby food, which is supposed to be excellent.

There are sweeter varieties… one of them we call it “PoovanPazham”.

Regards

Hello @Ewaade_3A Thanks for tagging me in your post, I don’t know too much about Bananas, but yes we have some areas in Province Sindh and Balochistan where we have some best quality bananas. And Thattha in Sindh province and Uthal in Balochistan province.

And yes it’s the most selling fruit in Pakistan as in other countries. But I m more fond of Mangoes from Sindhri City of Sindh province. Whenever I will write about it, I will share with you .

@TravellerG

You should introduce banana chips to @Ewaade_3A I always like Coimbatore banana chips. I am pretty sure Kerala is famous for chips as well.

Also looks like there are more than 300 verities of bananas across the world!

I love mangoes, as we know they are seasonal and are currently not in season, here @KashifMisidia

I look forward to the post. Thank you.

@jayasimha78 Jay, my landlord, how are you? Are you originally from Kerala?

Banana chips? hmmm. that’s another way to look at it.

@MahabubMunna and @Sophia_Cambodia have shared with us extensively about bananas from their countries, maybe they can share with us the best varieties for making chips. From the count, we have so far only about 20 varieties of bananas with different names in different countries. How many varieties do you know, Jay?

Yes @Ewaade_3A , at least the banana chips in Cambodia are made from ice-cream banana - perhaps because it is cheaper and more common or the fact them they can be kept for a long time.

@MahabubMunna I think we have many kinds of common bananas. I see all of bananas in your photos in Cambodia too!

Oh, I see. Thanks for replying. I love my plantain chip on the bridge, that gap between; ripe and unripe, so, I will probably go for chips made with the variant of plantain shared by @TravellerG especially if it is garnished with onions, ginger, garlic and pepper! You should try it, @Sophia_Cambodia

@Ewaade_3A I am from Karnataka State, which is neighboring state to Kerala. One of my favorite banana is ‘Nanjangud rasabalehannu’.

Here are different verities of banana grown in Karnataka

Dwarf Cavendish, Robusta, Rasthali, Poovan, Monthan, Elakkibale and of course ‘Nanjangud rasabalehannu’.

I don’t have my own pictures of these, you can easily google to find pictures.

ahaha @jayasimha78 Like me, we were all eating our banana for the longest time without thinking of keeping photos.

@TravellerG do you know @jayasimha78 is originally your neighbor?

Wow! I cannot believe that! Like; total lockdown, like; you can’t go anywhere?!

My goodness! Is Malaysia a big country? How far away is your state from kuching? @OmerAli

@Ewaade_3A @Malaysia is quite big actually. We were in conditional lockdown from Sep - Dec 2020 . Since 13 Jan 2021, we are in complete lockdown. Though locals can move around within 10 km radius, international students are mostly under complete lockdown, and I happen to be one of them .

I have never been to Kuching, I believe its in East Malaysia and would be around an hour by flight ( not factual, just my intuition  )
