Lefkada - the island of white rocks and beautiful beaches

Hello, I would like to share with you my trip to Lefkada Island in Greece or as it is called “White Island” because of its white sands along the beaches and the white rocks. Much can be said about the island, but I will try to present it here briefly.

Lefkada Island is a place that attracts visitors from all over the world and one of the reasons is the incredible pristine beauty of nature. Due to this, the island is at the top of the world charts for the most beautiful beaches, the most famous of which are: Porto Katsiki, Katisma and Egremni.

The capital of Lefkada is the only city on the island. The population is 13,000 and is mainly engaged in tourism and agriculture. The city is a wonderful combination between Venetian culture and Greek life

Many tourists and sailing enthusiasts are attracted after the construction of one of the most modern marinas in Greece with a capacity of over 500 yachts.

For lovers of sea travel on the island there is an opportunity for a full day cruise, where you can visit the most famous and beautiful nearby islands and beaches. The ship departs from the port of Nidri and heads to Porto Katsiki’s most famous beach, where it is possible to swim in the turquoise blue waters of the Ionian Sea.

Mooring at the beach Egremni.

Mini Beach

It continues to the largest of the group of islands Kefalonia. Next is Ithaca, the birthplace of Odysseus, Meganisi. Before heading to Lefkada, the ship passes the island of Scorpios.

Skorpios island was formerly known as the billionaire island - Aristotle Onassis, whom he had married to John F. Kennedy’s widow, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, and now the island is owned by Russian billionaire Ribolov.

Lefkada Island will remain for me a piece of paradise that has revealed to me its beauty and secrets.

What a post what a story… Wonderful.

Thank you @mockata2 for such a detailed post, added with beautiful pictures.

I love the beautiful residential building, the makedonia palace, and the white rocks you have shown in the pictures.

You have written that the island is a privately owned one, do you mean the whole island is a private property?

Thank you @ComradeShah for your assessment! Scorpio Island is indeed private, purchased in 1963 by ship tycoon Aristotle Onazis. After his death, the island was succeeded by his daughter, Christina, and after her on Athens, Onassis Roussel, the only surviving heir. Athens, did not intend to retain the island and after years sold it for more than 100 million euros to Ekaterina Ribolovleva - the daughter of Russian oligarch Dmitry Ribolovlev.

Was it your first time there @mockata2 ? I’m glad you enjoyed your staying there. Is there anything that visitors should avoid?

Hi @VasT , I visited Lefkada Island only once and my stay there was really enjoyable and full of good moments.

What I missed mentioning is that there are a lot of earthquakes here and tourists who visit the beaches of Porto Katsiki and Egremni have to be very careful when strolling or settling near the rocks. There is a great danger of collapse of large pieces of rock and something quite unpleasant can happen.

Regards!

Thank you for your reply @mockata2 , that’s true around the Ionian Sea there is earthquake activity but nothing worrisome. Have you ever been to another Greek island?

@VasT .I have visited some of the most famous Greek islands such as:Lefkada, Kefalonia, Zakynthos, Thassos, Santorini, Corfu, Paxos (Paxi) and Antipaxos.
When I was traveling by ferry to Santorini, there was a 30 minute stay at the main ports of Paros and Naxos, which unfortunately I did not visit.

I have a great desire to visit the island of Crete, Mykonos, Rhodes, Cyprus and many more.

Best regards!

I hope you will manage to visit many islands as possible @mockata2 ! Truth to be told, we have plenty of islands, and it’s no easy feat.

Thank you for adding these marvelous photos of Naxos. Once there you need to try the local cuisine.

Of course @VasT , not all islands can be visited (the total number of Greek islands varies from 1,200 to 6,000), because everything is related to means and leisure.
Thank you for the tasty food offer on Naxos Island, when it’s time to visit it I’ll try the meat cuisine.

Best regards!

Hi @Sebastien_5-1 !
Greece is unique and is like my second home country, I have traveled half of Greece even more than I have traveled to Bulgaria.
I like everything in this country, starting with culture, music (“pq”), architecture, sea, Mediterranean food and there will be many causes.
One of my dreams is to travel as many islands as possible and one of them is Crete.
Thanks to Google Maps, I was exploring places on the island of Crete that I wanted to visit.

Tell me about your stay on Crete.
Which places did you visit?
Which restaurants did you visit and what food did you order?
Share a hotel review?

Thanks
