This post is in response to the Google Guide question: What do you love sharing most on Google Maps and Why?
To answer this question reqiures a little back story. I moved to the Chicago Suburbs three years ago. When I first got here, I had no friends, knew only a couple of people and it was like stepping into a world. I had to learn everything all over again.
To be honest, I enjoyed the adventure. I’ve always loved being independent, feeling like an explorer. This new transition gave me plenty of opportunity. But it was hard and very difficult to figure it all out. What places did I like to eat? What theater did I prefer? What places had crappy service and what places were awesome?
Now that I think back, I began to do reviews on Google Maps almost as if I was writing to someone in my position. I was trying to help the other me’s out there to adjust to life in the Suburbs. And I still continue to do my reviews as I gain more experience.
Not that I am a great writer by any means, but I wanted to describe the atmosphere and feel of places. I wanted to give people more than the “I had a bad experience once, don’t eat here!!!” rants that I see in a lot of posts. I try to be objective and give people a feel for how I view the places I’ve been.
I hope it’s helped someone. Maybe someone identified with my experience. Or maybe I made someone laugh. Life is crazy and if something I post helps with that craziness, then it’s all worth it.
