Kot Tirth, Kalinjar.

Kot Tirth, Kalinjar Fort, Kalinjar, Banda, Uttar Pradesh, India.

Kalinjar Fort is situated on a high hill. Here many reservoirs were constructed to conserve and store rain water, the basic necessity of life. Kot teertha is the most prominent and magnificent of all these water bodies as there are many small and large reservoirs in Kalinjer Fort most of which are rock-cut.

It is a rectangular Tank whose walls are made of stones. Steps made of stones have been made to reach the water in the tank from all sides. The walls of the tank were richly decorated with sculptures which were plastered with fine lime mortar. As mentioned in many scriptures or texts, various diseases are treated after taking a bath in the tank. As I noticed many visitors were taking a bath but I was unable to access it because I was tired.
It is a man-made ancient water tank. The Kot tirth, a large tank, artificially formed in the rocky surface of the hill, is one of the important attractions.
On the banks of this beautiful reservoir, heaps of stones which once used to be beautiful buildings and there were several temples around the tank: some of them are now only in ruins which are today lying scattered in the condition of ruins. One such pavilion is situated on a high platform, whose pillars, beams and roof are made of sandstone and carvings are visible on some elements.

Besides this reservoir, there are some other big reservoirs like Buddha Buddhi talab, Shanichari talab I visited. Famous Raja Aman Singh Mahal and Patthar Mahal Masjid are situated on the bank of Kot Tirth.

Hi @rizbab28 ,

When I was in India in 2015, I was fascinated by these stone tanks or reservoirs.

I spent many hour sit down on the edge looked at the water and the people that used it.

Thanks for sharing this photo.

Hi,

I am absolutely glad to hear your experience and understanding regarding the importance of the water bodies.

Still some of ancient water harvesting systems are functional in many hill fortresses of India like Sajjangarh, Raisen etc.

I am grateful for your appreciation and precious words.

Regards,

Rizwan
