Hi Lgs,
Here is the recap of my first experience sharing meet up in Karachi.
It was a great experience for me to share some useful things… Which can make world better.
Actually that session was in two parts
Clean the world campaign, what are the dangerous impacts of plastic pollution on the world specially marine life, how can they ,as a young generation representatives , to reduce the pollution.
what is google maps, how it works, how can they contribute, what is local guides connect and how much its helpful to improve maps and betterment of world.
First of all I want to say thanks to my friends and teachers @ermest , @IlankovanT and Mr @DavidTito, who always guide me for that great work. They are big inspiration for me. And sir your appreciation is coz of motivation for me. A big Shukriya to you ermes and thushy
And special thanks to my school teacher Sir idress in Karachi who gave me the opportunity to share the experience with his students. Because he is also concerned about the dangerous consequences that our country is facing due to plastic pollution ,specially ,the beaches and oceans which are suffering the most.
At first I was only allotted to demonstrate in the 10th grade consisting of 28 students, but after seeing the interest of his students, he gave me one more class of 26 students.
First part : #Cleantheworld campaign.
In that session I raised the following points in both classes :
Currently, the oceans has been vastly polluted due to Oil dripping from the ships, industrial and chemical waste, and the garbage thrown by us, which mostly contains plastic.
Eighty percent of marine is polluted because of the land we live in, and how we pollute it to the fullest.
The garbage, chemical and toxic material which we dump in to the sea ,relentlessly, comes back to us in form of the sea food that we wholly consume.
Because of plastic bags / wastage in oceans and on the beach , turtles can have damages , because Plastic bags are petroleum-based and do not biodegrade. Sea turtles and other marine creatures mistake plastics and other garbage as food (such as jellyfish) and ingest it. This mistake causes blockages within their digestive system and leads to the eventual death. This makes a heart wrench seeing the innocent animals dying because of our human mistakes and carelessness.
To not deteriorate our mother earth I explain them how we can save it till we have the chance.
I explained them that the industrial development cannot be stop, and there are big companies behind it so you basically cannot stop them by yourself but know in your heart that the trashing in the oceans is the wrong.
Thus , whenever you go to for sea trip , avoid dumping plastic or any waste material in to the sea. Instead try picking up the closest wrapper and encourage your mates to do with you.
The last point was explaining them to aware the society of the drawbacks of dumping polluting the oceans , and multiple advantages of the beach clean.
Clean beaches and clean Pakistan can show the positive image of our country which can attract tourists and people globally to come and visit the hidden beauty of Pakistani beaches.
2nd part : #googlemaps#localguidesconnet
In that session I explain them about Google maps , and local guides connect.
The students to which I gave the presentation were mostly around 18, which means if they can learn the basics , than they can contribute as a local guide. To make it more easy for them, I made four papers set for each student so they can discuss at home or in the friend circle about take a part in this wonderful program.
That are the points which I explain them about Google maps and local guides connect :
What is Google maps ? :
People here in Pakistan are aware about Google maps very well, normally for private transportation and for finding the ways.
So the introduction about Google maps brief and concise.
About Google local guides program :
That was very interesting for the students to hear that they can also contribute to make maps better and they could also be a helping hand for the country and for the world.
How you can contribute? :
I instruct them about how to write reviews, upload pictures of places (not selfies?) ,
Check the facts, and specially how they can add new places on the Google maps.
What is Local Guides connect ? :
I gave them introduction about the forum of Local Guides connect where they can post and blog in diffrent categories such as Travel, Food and drinks , photography and many other categories, where if they face any difficulty the Google moderators and connect moderators are always there to guide them anytime.
Local Guides connect is the forum which is teaching to live a better and healthy life by geo walks , photography walks , food walks and general meet ups, along with preferring the virtual meet ups , this forum gives value to meet each other face to face and giving us the first hand experience of knowing other person.
So that was the recap of my first sucessful presentation about clean the world program and about Google maps/local guide connect.
Now another thing in my mind is to bring more active members in clean the world campaign and to bring the maximum numbers of Google local guides and local guide connect members.
I hope to achieve my target in to the best to make a change in our planet.
Working in the school is the most important (let say again: THE MOST IMPORTANT) point, if we care about the environement.
It seems you are growing up a new generation of Local Guides in Karachi. Working with student of that age is exciting and challanging, as they are “young adult”, accustomed to new technologies, quick learning, and propositive.
