Kitesurfing & Windsurfing in Essaouira, Morocco

Essaouira in another great place for kitesufr lovers in several hours flight time from any European city and 2 hours by car from Marakesh.

It is known as a windy city and no wonder why. The winds are pretty strong here of 15-30 knots with not high but fast waves, so you’d better to be little bit skilled, but still there are lots of beginners starting their kitesurfing and windsurfing “career” here. They say, if you can do in Essaouira, you can do it anywhere.

However, I’ve heart pretty much the same in Cabarete, because the waves are really challenging there for beginners. Here the waves are not big at all, so nothing to worry about.

The vast sandy beach stretches for km long and offers large space for both, kitesurfers and swimmers.

Swimming area is far away though, so there will be no problems with entering the ocean.

Although, there is another obstacle on the way to the water - the camels ))). They are right in the kite/windsurf spot together with theirs owners and tourists, but they are very peaceful and slow ;).

The windy season in Essaouira suppose to be from April to September, but water might be very cold… I found a great solution: I put 2 suites instead of 1 and it worked perfect for me. I didn’t freeze at all ?

Last thing to remember, that the locals speak mainly French here, but the kite instructors speak English withough any problems of course.

Take your time and come to visit this marvelous place if you have such a chance!

All all all the best,

Valentine

Great post on Essaouira @uavalentine !

I was lucky to windsurf here few years ago and I’d really appreciated the spot. The wind was strong, around 30-35 knots and the water super cold!!!

But it was a really nice experience here. Thank you very much for sharing it brings back good memories!

Well, I was sure you will ask pictures!!!
Usually I LOVE taking pictures , but unfortunately (or fortunately?) this day we didn’t have any cameras or phones. The unique goal was to ride with friends all day in this great spot!

And if I really think about it, it was being the best thing to do… Local guides also need to have fun in different ways!

@uavalentine Thanks again to remind me this great experience in Essaouira,

Saludos Farid.
