Hua Hin is one those amazing places worth to visit for kitesurfing, but there are some things you need to be aware of before coming!
First of all, it is a great location to learn to kitesurf since the winds are not too strong here, which normally vary from 8 to 15 knots, and rarely to 20. I did’t see any windsurfers there neither, wich means the winds are not enough for them, but at the same time they are just perfect not to be blown away for beginners.
Secondly, as in any other place, the windy season lasts some period of time only, and for Hua Hin it is from late October till late March, normally, however many people kitesurf all year round here when conditions allow.
I was there in February and the winds already were not stable, with several days of no wind windows. But still out of 20 days, 15 were perfect to kitesurf which is a good indication.
Third thing is jelly fish. The water is very warm, but you still need a light suite againts jelly fish, they are quite everywhere. I didn’t suffer from none of them, cause I covered the feet completely, but I know some people were hurt even in the suites, but bare foot. So I highly recommend to cover your feet and hands, specially if you are beginner and might stay in water longer then others.
Also, in many kitesurfing spots the beach visitors normally disturb the beginners in kitesurfing, cause it is pretty dangerous for swimmers and kitesurfers the entering to the sea area if it is full of people. Kite may fall just on their heads from 20-30 meters hight… But at this beach, the swimmers are far way from the kitesurfers what makes it a safe and peaceful place.
It is very easy to get here, but it takes about 2 and a half hours by taxi and 3 and a half hours by bus.
The road are very good though, nothing to worry about on the way.
Have a great great time in this magnificent place!!!
