I have been flying kites since the age of 10 that I remember so it is almost 35 years of kite flying.
Some of the kites that I still remember that I played with are called as below:
Kite type 1 is called Khada Danda - खडा डंडा
Kite type 2 is called Ada Danda - आडा डंडा
Kite type 3 is called Gilora or Langot - गिलोरा / लंगोट
Kite type 4 is called Khalmi Dugga - डूग्गा
Kite type 5 is called Anda - अंडा
Kite type 6 is called Do Anda - दो अंडा
Kite type 7 is called Chaouranga - चोरंगा
Kite type 8 is called Tokka - टोक्का
A kite festival was organized by the Bengaluru Marathi community in Sarjapur on the occasion of Makar Sankranthi and I took my family to participate and enjoy.
Besides the kite making and kite flying, there were also other activities like music, karaoke, cricket, and food stalls.
It was overall a fun-filled afternoon and a sweet recollection of childhood memories.
Do you know some popular types of kites that you have seen and flown?

Hi, @TusharSuradkar ?!
Very interesting information. Thanks for sharing. I used to fly kites too in my childhood in Cuba. In the Dominican Republic, where I live now, children also fly them.
Stay safe.
Best regards.

@TusharSuradkar very interesting post. In my city they hold a kite festival by the sea, next to the wall, in the month of August, Cartagena, Colombia.

Hi @TusharSuradkar Sir,
Yes, please share more such information you have. And please tag me then there.
I didn’t fly kites much in my life. During childhood, I was little afraid of the “manjha”. It used to be very sharp.

Thanks for the post, I have seen many flying kites during the Sankranti festival in Hyderabad. I did tried flying kites when I was a kid but all my attempts went in vain. So, I used to accompany my friends on the roof terrace where they fly the colorful kites and enjoy the exciting ambiance.

Hi @Tushar18
That’s right, buddy.
One has to be very careful about the manjha especially if it has glass powder mixed in it, could hurt very easily.

That’s right @fasi6083
Hyderabad is a major place for kite flying outside of Ahmedabad and Rajasthan.
It is easy for a kite to not fly up in the sky, one of these is a faulty knot of the thread called ‘kun’.
Some supervision from experienced people is required initially.
It appears you are in Saudi Arabia currently.
Do they fly kites out there as well?

@TusharSuradkar On that street resided a man with the last name Hobo who had a car rental garage … it is a street with bed and breakfast-style hotels … a few blocks from the clock tower.
Thank you @Robert24
Nice information.
Now curious how is that related to the kite and kite festival discussed here.
