Katra Masjid is a magnificent monument in Murshidabad, renowned for its grand architecture. Built in 1723 by Nawab Murshid Quli Khan under architect Murad Farash, its structure is made of sturdy bricks on an elevated plinth.

The mosque’s impressive layout features huge brick minarets at its corners, two of which still survive. The central courtyard is the focal point, with a grand eastern gate providing a majestic entrance to the complex.

This historical site was also a major Islamic teaching center. A hundred two storey chambers surround the courtyard, once accommodating 600 students and 100 teachers for religious studies.

The entire structure exhibits a divine symmetry, creating a peaceful atmosphere. The western prayer hall features jagged arches of black stone, with a Persian inscription from 1723 AD confirming its founder.

While three of its original five domes have been destroyed, the remaining two still stand, preserving its elegance. This monument of national importance remains a popular tourist destination for its historical and architectural beauty.
