KanyaKumari - The Confluence of Three Oceans

The farthest point on the Indian Peninsula is the Rock Memorial in Kanyakumari.

This is an island a few meters away from the mainland which is both visible to the naked eye and can be reached via a ferry boat for a nominal ticket.

Three large water bodies appear to meet here - The Arabian Sea on the west, the Bay of Bengal or the Laccadive Sea on the east and the Indian Ocean in the south.

Each ocean has a distinct color if you observe carefully.

Here’s a picture from the west side and appears to have a unique aqua or cool greenish color:

This picture is from the east side and has a distinct blueish hue. Scroll this page up and down fast to compare the colors.

I also captured a wide panorama which easily shows the three water bodies seemingly merging into one another over a shade of color.

Best Time to Visit

The ideal is from November to March as summer could be quite warm but the beautiful sea and the beaches bring a soothing effect to the mind.

Monument Tips

  1. Ample free parking is available at the memorial entrance so do not park on the road since the vehicle could be towed away and attract heavy fine.
  2. The timings of the ferry boat are restricted in the late afternoon, so it is advisable to visit in the morning.

Shopping Tips

  1. Do not shop for the conch shells and other items at the start of the market but only later when you reach the seashore since the prices diminish in that direction.
  2. Always bargain for 1/4 the quoted price so you end up in purchasing for half the price.

Nearby Attractions

  1. Varkala Beach if you want to proceed towards Kerala and then on to Alapuzza, followed by Munnar.
  2. Rameshwaram, then the amazing Dhanushkodi, followed by Madurai and Thanjavur big temple in one direction or Coimbatore and Ooty in the other direction.

Wow… Amazing sea with different beautiful colors  @TusharSuradkar

It looks so clear and peaceful. Now you make me miss to go to the ocean and hear the wave’s sound.

Are the any fishes in that sea? :tropical_fish: :tropical_fish:

Thanks @Velvel

Sure, there is plenty of fish but they are too big and one has to take a fishing boat into the deep sea to catch some.

“Now you make me miss to go to the ocean and hear the wave’s sound.”

Well, in that case, you shouldn’t waste more time and head to the shores for the oceans are calling.

I migrated recently from Bangalore located down south in India where the seas are not more than 150 kilometers either to the east or the west or in the south direction, to here in Delhi which is up north about 2500 kilometers away from any sea shore.

I believe in the part of the world where you live, the seashore should not be much far, right Velvel?

Hi @TusharSuradkar it’s amazing to know that 3 different sea water meet in this place. I love watching and hearing the sound of the sea. It’s very relaxing! Great place for vacation. Thanks for sharing with us!

Thanks @Velvel

Since you mentioned liking the sound of the sea, you’d probably also know a fun fact about conch shells - they produce the same sound like the calm sea when held very close to the ears.

How far is the seashore from the place where you live?

@TusharSuradkar yeah, I’ve heard about it but I never try. Have you tried it yet?

The seashore is quite near actually, about 30-minute drive from my home. There’s an amusement park located next to the beach and it’s often too crowded. So, I don’t really like going there

You’re welcome @TusharSuradkar

Interesting! Do you know what kind of big fish? Usually a big fish could be a good choice as a roasted fish hahaha…

I miss sea, but in this time because of the pandemic, I can’t go far, especially out of my city in Jakarta, Indonesia .

One of the city in Indonesia that has a great ocean and beach is [Yogyakarta](http://Yogyakarta%20Yogyakarta City, Special Region of Yogyakarta https://maps.app.goo.gl/8daMCkkYb6RQX1y3A). I need to ride a train or plane to reach the city.
