Kanchanjangha : The Mountain of Ice (Part: 01)

Hi my fellow local guides,

Hope you guys are in good health. Recently I completed my Sandakphu-Phalut trekking. Sandakphu is the highest peak in West Bengal, India, with an elevation of 3636 meters (11,930 ft). And Phalut is the second highest peak in West Bengal, India, with an elevation of 3595 meters (11,795 ft). It was my first international tour and also first international trekking. I completed this trekking 6 days with my team. Today I’m going to share my journey with you. Hope you guys will enjoy this.

The trekking was 6 days long. So, I decided to write the full story in 6 parts. This is the first part of my writing. Our first day trekking started from Dhotrey to Tumling. Dhotrey is on India side and Tumling is on the Nepal side. The interesting thing, I trekked in two countries.

The first day we woke up early in the morning and get prepared ourself for the journey. We finished our breakfast and rent a car from Siliguri to Dhotrey. The scenario of road is too beautiful and also enjoyable. When we arrived Dhotrey it was lunch time. So, at first we finished our lunch at Gopal Restaurant cum Homestay. The lunch was too yummy. Who knows, the lunch is going to be my best lunch for a week!

After finishing the lunch we start our trekking. We all are excited. The trekking road, environment, nature all are beautiful! The more we go in, the better we enjoy the beauty of nature. We thought after the launch it will be difficult to trek. But the nature makes us wrong! We started enjoying the trekking.

After trekking a few kilometers, I wondered the beautiful moment of my life. For the first time I saw the mountain of ice! The Kanchanjangha or the Sleeping Buddha! I can’t express the feeling. My eyes wet with tears. We all took some photos. Enjoyed the view in silence.

The time is running out, we started our trekking lately, so we again started trekking. Because the sunlight is gone down. The most interesting thing is when the sunlight goes down, the moon started shining. I forgot it was full-moon. I think nature starting to make my first international tour memorable.

Finally, in the evening we reached our first day destination after 6.5KM trekking. We stayed in Green Hill Paradise Hotel. They welcomed us with hot tea, which was more important then. The room is beautifully decorated and the homestay is also beautiful. After the evening snacks we took some rest and a few hours later we finished our dinner. The dinner was also good. And our first day ended with a good night’s sleep.

Don’t forget to comment how was the first part of trekking. In the next part I will share about Tumling to Kala Pokhri trekking. And the most important thing, while enjoying the beauty of the places, don’t forget about the environment. Keep your trash in your bag. Thanks for reading.

I don’t trek a long distance, only short ways.

I like it to trek in parks and through my city (Hamburg) or other cities.

I take a lot of photos during my walks, especially for Google Maps. :grinning:
