Most of the buildings in Raisen Fort were two and three storeyed. Architecture and workmanship were at its peak, masons were brilliant and were perfect in stone masonry. Jhinjhari Mahal was also a magnificent edifice which was used administrative office also in ancient times was known as Purani Kachahari though part of Royal residence.
Jhinjhri Mahal is also built at the eastern end of the hill of Raisen fort. This end of the hill was very safe because from the eastern and southern side this hill is almost like cliff which was extremely difficult to climb and is surrounded by a security wall with bastions.
This palace is very magnificent, its entrance gate is having exclusive carving work with floral and geometrical figures, niches etc. The third floor roofs of the corners and the middle structures are adorned with bulbous domes. Extremely attractive balconies whose tops are decorated with small bulbous domes. The balconies are resting on the stone brackets, whose roofs are supported by stone pillars. Jhanjhari palace has narrow stairs to access the second and third floor. The traditional courtyard in the middle is beautiful. This palace has not been damaged to a great extent. Why this palace has this name, there is a lack of more historical information.
This is a national heritage and a protected monument. It’s a major attraction among the history buffs and tourists of all interests.
