Perched atop the “Hill of Eagles,” Jaigarh Fort, the “Fort of Victory,” was commissioned by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II in 1726. Its primary historical role was as the key defensive outpost protecting the treasury and the adjacent Amer Fort complex below.

The architecture is ruggedly impressive, featuring massive red sandstone battlements stretching over three kilometers. Its structure highlights military engineering, including a soaring central watchtower, built specifically for all around surveillance and commanding defensive views of the entire Amer region.

The complex highlights strategic design, incorporating subterranean passages connecting it to Amer Fort and highly efficient water harvesting systems. This ingenuity ensured the fort’s self-sufficiency during long sieges.

The fort is globally famed for the Jaivana Cannon. Manufactured in 1720 at the on site cannon foundry, once among the world’s most advanced, it’s the largest cannon on wheels ever constructed. The Armory displays other antique weapons and artillery.

To explore this marvel, Jaigarh Fort is open daily, generally operating from 9:00 AM to 6:30 PM. The entry fee for Indian adults is typically ₹150 per person, while foreigners pay around ₹200 per person, plus additional charges for cameras.
