There was a national holiday in Nigeria on the 16th of September 2024.Therefore we made it a date and had an Iyan Food crawl meet-up. It was so cooool.
Wow !!! I love food crawl meet-up because I am a foodie. This was another very tasty and colourful meet-up. It was short and sweet. It was very tasty and homely. The place is called Ile Iyan restaurant
The first thing I love in the venue of the meet-up is the very local and environmental friendly setting. We had to take off our shoes and sit on the straw mats. It was so cool it was very inviting and innovative. The mats were neatly arranged and well placed out on the floor. We sat on the mat and crossed our legs,in the very homely local way. There was ayo(Game) to be played while we waited for the food. Ayo is a local yoruba game. The wait wasn’t too long so we soon got the food. Wow!!! Then the taste of the Iyan(Pounded yam) and egusi,it’s so tasty. The iru and other local spices hnmmm. You’ll need a taste yourself and I can’t explain that to you. There was palm wine being served in calabash as well. There were other fresh local drinks.
Our discussions as local guides
I brought out some of the stickers gotten from Tokyo through @Sagir (Thank you again) and we discussed the various connect moderators. We also discussed the need for more physical meet-ups like;
- In-person contributor conversation.
- Mega meet-ups like connect live etc. We also discussed the anniversaries coming up next year. Namely; 10th year anniversary of the local guides program and the 20th year anniversary of Google itself.
There is a need to meet physically because it gives motivation to contribute and be active on connect.
We talked about adding roads directly on Google maps and the road mappers program. I never knew that Sagir had over 70 added roads on Google maps. Congratulations to you and we invite you to add more if possible.
As expected of us as local guides we contributed photos and videos to the restaurant. It’s basically an African restaurant if you ask me.
Item 7 on the menu
Since it’s an African restaurant we basically ordered about the same things. Pounded yam called Iyan in Yoruba Language. The soup was different but the main course is the same. There was Egusi soup and fish and goat meat. We also ordered efo rĂrọ which is just green vegetable soup. There was also okro soup etc. It’s a place to be and was nice to be there. We also had fun as well in many ways.
Thank you Sagir. Thank you @MrLabule . you are always a loyal and active local guide on the Lagos scene. @MrFreez I miss you on this meet-up. I really wished you were in this meet-up but I know you were not free.
Below is the Iyan Food crawl photo Album . Feel free to ask questions if necessary and I’ll try to answer accordingly.
Happy guiding
Cheers
