It's Greek to me!!!

Caption: Can you translate this? (LG: @AdamGT )

I took this photo on a Greek island in 2018 and wondered if there was an LG amongst us who could kindly translate this for me.

Well done to both of you @PaulPavlinovich and @C_T . It actually knew the answer as I had worked it out earlier this afternoon with the help of Google. I searched for kefalonia 1871 - 1916 as I knew I took the pic in kefalonia and of course could read the birth/death date and his name popped up! So tell me how you worked it out ?

I typed the Greek alphabet, assembled the words & then did a Google search @AdamGT .

The Wiki page was in Greek too. But, we can always translate any web page into English.
Nevertheless, the third alphabet was a little confusing & then I had some doubts. However, the years matched perfectly.

Not sure how you would type the Greek alphabet @C_T but well done!!!

I actually thought that there was some way of doing a translation directly off an image like that but perhaps I am wrong!

Hello @AdamGT

There are many websites which offer online keyboards to type in multiple scripts.

That was the only way earlier to type Devanagari.

Now Gboard has made that simpler.

The image is not sharp. Else, you could have used the camera in Google translate to scan the text and then translate.

So I could have added the Greek keyboard on my Pixel and directly typed in the Greek characters! So simple @C_T and yes the image is not sharp at all but thank you for explaining how I could do it with Translate, a handy tip to know!

Hello, dear @C_T

That was a good “research” -

“…The image is not sharp. Else, you could have used the camera in Google translate to scan the text and then translate…”

This I tried but in vain.

Great C_T

Thanks

I’ve used gboard this way for cyrillic characters.
