Issue with photo publishing in Czech Republic - Level 9 Local Guide

Text příspěvku:

Hi everyone,

I’m a Level 9 Local Guide from the Czech Republic with over 15,000 photos and 38 million views. Recently, I’ve encountered a very frustrating issue that I’m unable to resolve through standard feedback channels.

For about a month now, almost every photo I try to upload within the Czech Republic is immediately marked as “Not Posted” (the warning triangle icon). However, when I traveled to Egypt recently, every single photo I uploaded there was published instantly without any issues. Upon returning home, the problem persists for all local Czech locations.

Key points:

  • Quality: My photos follow all guidelines (no faces, no license plates, high quality).

  • Comparison: International uploads (Egypt) work 100%, local uploads (CZ) fail 90% of the time.

  • Troubleshooting: I have the latest version of Maps and have tried clearing the cache/reinstalling.

  • Status: This is happening even at locations where I have successfully contributed before.

It feels like a regional filter or a technical bug affecting my account specifically for the Czech region. As a long-term contributor, it’s discouraging to see my efforts blocked by an automated system for no apparent reason.

Could a moderator please look into this or escalate it to the technical team?

Thank you, Jan

Hello @KastaNET welcome to the Local Guides Connect community!

Did you make your photos with a Galaxy smartphone with a recent version of Android? If so, delete one of the hidden photos, crop the original just a little bit and upload it again and have a look at this thread: Cannot upload images to reviews - #6 by WilfriedB

Yes, photos with the Galaxy A 55. I tried cropping one photo now and the result is the same - a triangle  but thank you very much!

How did you crop, @KastaNET? If possible try a different photo editor.
I and several other users have that issue since beginn of the year and so far it always did work for me. Possibly it helps, if you delete all hidden photos first.

Currently, you have 1,031 hidden photos. This might trigger more restrictions.

CC @MortenCopenhagen

I manually cropped a little on each side, in the Samsung gallery editor. Yes, it started at the beginning of the year, I’m just surprised that the problem is only “at home” and not with vacation photos. Thank you very much, I’ll try

Strange. We recently found out it is not the Galaxy device or Android version causing this, but the Galaxy Camera app 16.0.00.63. Do you use multiple camera apps?

@KastaNET if you have the possibility, try this workaround: Cannot upload images to reviews - #25 by WilfriedB or make a new photo with another camera app, such as OpenCamera.

Yes, exactly - I have Galaxy Camera 16.0.00.63 - and you could say I don’t use anything else

Hi @KastaNET , I’m sorry about your issue. However what you said isn’t right.

We know that there is an issue with some galaxy phones, as mentioned by @WilfriedB
It’s a worldwide issue. The only difference is that while for contributions in places located inside the EU you are notified (the warning signs) for contributions in other places you don’t receive any notification, even if the photos aren’t published.
In fact this is what I can see on your recent photos on your public profile

Do you see the difference with your private profile?
The issue is well known and it has been escalated to the team, but actually the only solution is to edit the photos one by one, to have them published

OK., I didn’t think about it. That might explain:

If vacation was outside of EU, your photos do not show the warning under My contributions, but they are hidden anyway, @KastaNET

One more question for @ErmesT:
Could it be possible that because of the high number of more than 1,000 hidden photos, the SPAM filter rejects even “corrected” photos? I was surprised when @KastaNET said, the crop didn’t help.

Honestly I don’t think so, @WilfriedB
I was just responding to a Local Guide with more than 1000 hidden photos (75% of his contributions) and he published some photos recently without any issue.
Also, if there is a posting restrictions, you will not be able to post, so the photos will not be visible also in your own profile.
But I can’t confirm that, because when I was targeted as a spammer) during the initial release of the notifications for non posted reviews) even my ratings in France were not posted

Let me add, @WilfriedB , @KastaNET , that if the reason is the one mentioned above, it can be helpful to use the Account investigation for contributions not visible on Google Maps for the team to check

Okay, thank you. So I understand that this is not a regional problem, or a problem with the profile. So is it a technical problem with Galaxy or has the public sharing been tightened? How come only one photo out of five is released from a certain location? Why does Google Maps offer me to publish photos with a certain location, when they will still be rated with a triangle. And should I delete all photos with a triangle (hidden)? Is there no chance that they will be released? (I will not upload some photos again because I deleted them.

Looks like I was responding while you were writing, @KastaNET

As we discovered (see here), the camera app produces corrupted (or at least very unusual) metadata. Apparently, some photo editors ignore it and update the image files with correct metadata. Why does Google filter reject those images? Very likely, we will never know.

Other local guides also said, not all of those photos were rejected. I only posted 99 photos of my S24 this year and also noticed two of them were accepted. Why? Again, we will never know, but we know, the location doesn’t play any role here - just each single image file.

I am afraid, nobody can tell you @KastaNET. Maybe, keeping them and just wait, is the right thing to do and they will be reinstated sooner or later - or maybe not at all. Personally, I decided to delete all of them right after realizing they are hidden and uploaded the modified version, except for four of them, which I finally deleted and replaced yesterday.

Hello, disappointment, the problem persists/ I crop the photos, I publish one at a time, harmless posts and a triangle everywhere, I’m no longer enjoying it, I’m sorry, I used to enjoy contributing

How did you crop @KastaNET? According to some other comments, if you do so on the same smartphone doesn’t help. I was always successful performing the crop or even only opening and writing the image with a photo editor on windows.

Also see this thread or here. In the latter comment was said “... re-saving it with Irfanview (without any changes) and reupload in Windows-Webrowser is accepted.”
