Is visiting a place compulsory to give review

I have a doubt, if we visited any places, we could experience the quality of hospitality and services which they provide, we can discribe it and give a review…

But if we didn’t visit the particular place and got our job done via their service as technical or via a phone call, can we give a review? Because we experienced the service but didn’t visit.

Will that be a wrong thing?

@Nivaas_viga Well think about it, if you’ve never been to the place, how can you describe how the interior of the place? How can you describe the service? If it’s a restaurant, how can you tell whether the food is good or not? There’s no hard rule about it, but it’s definitely in the best interest of everyone for a reviewer to at least make a visit once to the place they’re reviewing.

There are other things you can do to contribute even if you don’t visit the place though, such as editing missing info like phone number, website and address if you happen to know the info.

Also another note, contributing on Google Maps is not a job. It’s supposed to be an activity that you do during your spare time by contributing info to help others. I don’t think it’s a wise to conduct an ‘interview’ by phone to get info about the place just for the sake of collecting information, as they may be busy with their customers and other business work.

Hi @Nivaas_viga

If you were a customer, then sure please post a review.

Google even has a special service for businesses without a fixed address since they only do business at the customer’s places. They are called Service Area Businesses. And they do accept reviews.

All the best

In answering your question @Nivaas_viga I wold point out that the Maps user-generated content policy clearly states that contributions must be based on real experiences and so I would think that not visiting the place being reviewed would not constitute a real experience!

@iyudhi Sir I didn’t meant asking, can I give review to some place without visiting… I was trying to ask if any business they provide services to us through Internet, like call center, services like couriers / delivery and services which doesn’t need to visit their place. In these cases can we able to give review for their service only.

@Nivaas_viga General rule of thumb is, if you can experience what the business is offered directly, then you will be able to give reviews that reflects your experience.

@MortenCopenhagen that’s so crisp and pleasant knowing that sir. So reviews are allowed to give review for service providing business.

@AdamGT Yes sir I got your point, we are not supposed to give reviews without experiencing personally, what if the company is a service based business, where we need not to visit their place, instead they will visit our place to provide us services.

@iyudhi Sir that is all I wanted to know. Now my doubt is dissolved.

Thank you

@Nivaas_viga

You mentioned call centers. They are mentioned specifically as not qualifying to have a pin on Google Maps.

Cheers

I disagree. Google Maps provides Local Service Ads for Local Businesses that provide in home services. Google also requires verification for approval in a process to do so. If we hire a business for services but do not visit their physical location, we should still be able to leave a review for the listings on maps.

@Nivaas_viga this question posed ,while controversy as well as great , can be explained in layman’s terms which I will attempt to do.

In the event I am unable to do so, Google’s rewiew policies are explained here.

Google is used to provide honest and accurate feedback for places an individual whom has personally used or visited the place that they are leaving a review for on Maps. If you use a service, buy a product online from a specific business -then yes, you can leave a review. Now if you buy a tshirt with the brand @abc, you can’t leave businesses reviews that sell the brand @abc tshirts because that would not be fair or accurate mapping. Service industries spend millions a year with Google Ads so they have business listings on Maps and rightfully so that you may never visit rather they visit you in your home or business. You are more than free to leave these businesses a review.

Be authentic and honest when reviewing and it helps keep maps clean and accurate. Leave a review for a business even if you have not physically been to it’s location, but have proof you actually conducted and or hired services from that business to ensure you can provide photos to google that show proof of the review you provide.

Also, do note Moderators or high level Local guides should be aware of the changes in maps by instruction as well as common sense. The world is changing into digital themes drastically. If Google allows a business to advertise and maintain a listing through the verification process, and you use the business even without visitint it, You can leave a review. Does the business have a physical piece of map property? Then yes again you can leave them a review. Maps would be lost to the times without engagement. There are elderly people that use maps but never leave their homes for services. They are allowed to review. It’s Google’s job to create technology that smothers out the abused mapping systems for reviews, not purchasers of legit transaction in map listings.

Thanks for your advice, now I get it thanks.

** @TiffanyStockstill that was a great support, you just literally cleared the situation around me, thanks we local guide just trying to help people.**
