Irani Tea – A Timeless Brew with Culture in Every Sip

Irani Tea is a special style of tea that became popular in India through Persian-influenced Irani cafés, especially in cities like Hyderabad, Mumbai, and Pune. It’s rich, creamy, and served hot in small glasses or cups – often paired with bun maska (buttered bread) or Osmania biscuits.

What makes Irani Tea unique is its strong decoction mixed with thick milk and a generous amount of sugar, giving it a bold and comforting taste. These cafés are not just tea spots – they’re part of the city’s history and culture.

If you ever visit India, especially the old city areas, don’t miss the chance to try Irani Chai and soak in the vintage café vibes.

Have you tried a similar kind of tea in your country?

Absolutely - I have been to many Irani Tea Shops in Pune.
Yet, there are many more @adwait to explore.

Gladly, those in Pune are still run by the original Zoroastrians from Iran or their descendants.

If you see, many of the 76 participants in the Tea Challenge - Chai pe Charcha have been to Irani Tea shops

You are invited to participate :handshake:

In fact, yesterday, local guides in Pune met for Tea, at Cafe Goodluck, which is an Irani Cafe

Hi @adwait
That’s a fantastic post! Your description of Irani tea and the whole culture around it is so vivid, I can almost smell the aroma.

It would be amazing if you could add a Google Maps link to the place you mentioned. That way, anyone inspired by your post can easily find their way there for a cup.
