Introducing a New AR Selfie Effect for Google Local Guides!

Hello, fellow Local Guides!

I’m thrilled to share a project that I’ve been working on, inspired by our collective experiences and the pride we take in being Google Local Guides. In an effort to celebrate our community in a fun and innovative way, I’ve created an Augmented Reality (AR) effect available on both Instagram and Facebook.

This AR effect is a selfie experience like no other, where your face is featured within a photo frame boasting a Google Maps theme. To highlight our shared pride in being integral parts of this global initiative, it includes the message: “I am proud to be a Local Guide”. It’s a great way to visually express our dedication and contributions to the Google Maps community, and to inspire others about the impact we make.

Whether you’re exploring new places, adding insightful reviews, or updating vital information, our contributions make a significant difference. This AR effect aims to celebrate that spirit of exploration and contribution. It’s also a fun way to raise awareness about the Local Guides program and encourage more people to join our ranks.

Hi @VamshiSrinivas while you should be proud of your efforts you are violating the terms and conditions of being a Local Guide. We cannot use any of the Maps branding including Google colours,. Maps Pin logo etc. You need to change this to use the community logos or logos that you develop.

Hi Paul,

Thank you for your guidance and for highlighting the specific guidelines regarding the use of Maps branding. My intention was purely to celebrate our Local Guides community in a creative and engaging way. I understand now that my approach inadvertently crossed the lines of the terms and conditions, and I appreciate your patience and the opportunity to rectify this.

I will promptly revise the AR effect to ensure it aligns with the guidelines, focusing on using the community logos or developing new, compliant visuals. My goal remains to contribute positively to our community, and I’ll make sure to review the provided guidelines thoroughly to ensure full compliance.

If there are specific aspects of the revision process or guidelines that I should pay extra attention to, I’d be grateful for any further advice or resources you or the team might provide.
