Introduce Yourself — September 2025

Hi everyone! Welcome to Local Guides Connect. Please take a moment to introduce yourself to our community.

As “Introduce Yourself” threads can be lengthy, we start a new one each month and lock past threads. You can check previous threads, like August’s, to see who recently joined and where they’re from. We’ll merge any “I’m new” and “Hello world” posts we find elsewhere with this thread to keep things organized.

Do you want to be featured in our monthly Introduce Yourself posts? Share your introduction in the comments, following the five prompts below, and a horizontal photo of yourself (in landscape mode). The best introductions will be considered for future Introduce Yourself posts. Please note: Your response may be edited for clarity. By taking part in this challenge, you agree to allow us to share your answers and photo(s) publicly here on Connect.

This month, meet @phenomenonalONE7! Amal Xavier is a Local Guide Level 6, and here’s what he shared.

1. Name: Amal Xavier

2. Location: Moncton, NB, Canada :canada:

3. What I love about being a Local Guide: I love sharing my authentic experiences at the places that I visit in this journey of life. Whether it is places of natural beauty or in metropolitan cities and villages, I want to help my fellow travelers as well as the businesses attract more visitors.

4. My favorite thing to explore: That would be places of natural beauty — landscapes, mountains, national parks — that showcase the beauty of our amazing planet. Meeting people, exchanging experiences, and learning about the history of a place and the local culture are also important parts of my exploration.

5. Fun fact about me: Last year, I hitchhiked across Newfoundland on a 14-day solo trip (my first ever solo trip ). It was a surreal experience that started from Channel-Port aux Basques to St. John’s. The highlight of the trip was visiting Gros Morne National Park and camping there for 5-6 days. I am also a slow traveler, in the sense that I don’t just travel for the sake of visiting but rather take my time and experience everything a place has to offer.

Nice to meet you, Amal Xavier! Local Guides, don’t miss the chance to say hi to Amal Xavier in the comments below and share your introduction, too.

Hello @phenomenonalONE7 (Amal Xavier) and welcome to Connect and congratulations on your introduction.

As well as loving to explore places of natural beauty — landscapes, mountains, national parks, I loved reading how you hitchhiked solo across Newfoundland. I did some hiking in Newfoundland myself some years back and like you, loved it. I have many photos on an old PC but found these few not so exciting photos taken on the short Bottle Cove Trail and then onto Captain Cook’s Trail End overlooking Gulf of St. Lawrence. Newfoundland is certainly a beautiful part of the world.
