Hey, @JimmyJasrotia , welcome to Connect!

Your first stop should be the monthly post to Introduce Yourself

There, you’ll get to meet Local Guides from around the world. If you reply to one of their posts, make sure you ‘tag’ them so they get a notification. You do that by adding the @ sign and their username.

Then, check out the menu on the side to look through different boards that are interesting to you. You might even find a meet up in your area to get some face-to-face time with other Local Guides.

Here’s a great post by @SholaIB to help get you started: Welcome To Connect

@JimmyJasrotia You are very welcome. Hopefully you find that this community is all very welcoming and eager to share about their experiences and home-town/country.

Thank you for the invite! India is on my list of must visit places, for sure, driven mostly by the amazing posts from your Guiding Star @TravellerG . Looks like you already got his attention with the posts yesterday.

don’t forget that “tag” when responding to make sure the person gets a notification. Takes a bit to get used to because you’d expect the ‘Reply’ button to take care of it, but you’ve got to add their name in. I used the @ tag for you and Traveller here in this post. You’ll get a notice, and so will he.

Hey @SholaIB ! You are not imagining things, I have been away from most things the last few months. Even @TerryPG had to tease me about it in the Race To A Billion post. I didn’t realize it was that noticeable :joy: .

Everything is going well, thank you. Perhaps, since I’ve had such a long absence, I ought to re-introduce myself! Thanks for the prompt, man.

1. Name: Jake (Just Jake)

2.Location: Phoenix, Arizona, USA

3. What I love about being a Local Guide: I have realized that being a Local Guide has made me slow down and be much more observant and present in my hometown & places I visit.

I get encouraged by the accomplishments of others on Connect:

These self imposed challenges lead me to focus on specific types of contributions for a time and keep a fresh outlook. This, too, pushes me to be more active in my community and observant when I travel.

It’s a nice feeling to be able to contribute a review/photo/edit that will, hopefully, have a positive impact on a traveller or business. I also love the anonymity of the whole thing (unless you get caught or become a “star”). There are no prizes or monetary rewards, just the satisfaction of knowing there’s so many of us going around quietly making it easier for everyone else to navigate the world and find awesome places.

4. My favorite thing to explore: I am obsessed with the rural areas and small towns within Arizona (USA). There is quite a lot of history here that connects to the expansion of the United States, and the cultural importance of the land I live on to the Native Peoples who have been here for 1000s of years. Some of the rural areas have retained a sense of time back to when they were settled. Much of the Tribal lands are without modern services that exist only 50 miles away in a bigger town. The experience of being in these places, speaking with the locals, and understanding the challenges or reasons for the “character” of their home is my favorite.

5. Fun fact about me: Despite the layout of Phoenix (Arizona,US), the 110 average days with temperatures over 100 degrees (f), and the infrastructure that has been built for 7-passenger SUVs to go 100mph everywhere, I prefer to commute on a Vespa Scooter. Scooters are a rarity here, but we have a small community of Scooter enthusiasts and we turn heads wherever we go. That’s me, always needing more attention while trying to fly under the radar :joy:

Thanks for reading. Have a fantastic day!

Welcome @JustJake

I could also present you with a Welcome to connect card but maybe I’ll change my mind on that.

For New local guides it’s free. For guiding stars you should pay a token.

Nice photo of you there very cute looking. Thank you for sharing. That might win next month featuring !!! Fingers crossed.

Cheers

@SholaIB It was my initial shot for the Guiding Stars until I read that you could not have any logos or designs on your shirt :joy: I ended up having to get a coworker to just take my notoriously un-cute final image.

I will get caught up on those posts soon, @MortenCopenhagen . I think you’ve come up with invaluable tips for all of us.

The streets in the US are not quite fit for scooters. Where I live, many have a speed limit of 70kph, and the highways move at about 120kph. I continue to make modifications to keep up, mostly for the absurdity of someone on a scooter passing cars at 80mph. But, this means we need full motorcycle endorsements.

My wife and I had planned a Vespa trip around the Netherlands a few years ago, but got rained out. I think when our kids are old enough for us to get back to traveling alone, a ride around Italy or revisiting our missed Netherlands route will be top of the list.

Or, maybe I’ll invite myself over to have @Stephanie_OWL teach me to ride a real motorcycle in Germany :+1: .

Hallo @JustJake
