Introduce Yourself — March 2023

Hi everyone! Welcome to Local Guides Connect. Please take a moment to introduce yourself to our community.

As “Introduce Yourself” threads can be lengthy, we start a new one each month and lock past threads. You can check previous threads, like February’s, to see who recently joined and where they’re from. We’ll merge any “I’m new” and “Hello world” posts we find elsewhere with this thread to keep things organized.

Do you want to be featured in our monthly Introduce Yourself posts**?** Share your introduction in the comments, following the five prompts below, and a horizontal photo of yourself (in landscape mode). We will select one of the best introductions and include it in our next month’s post. Please note: Your response may be edited for clarity. By taking part in this challenge, you agree to allow us to share your answers and photo(s) publicly here on Connect.

This month, meet @InspiringCuriosity ! Mona is a Local Guide Level 6, and here’s what they shared.

1. Name: Mona Bhadauria

2.Location: Toronto, Canada

3. What I love about being a Local Guide: Exploring countries and cultures through their food, history, and day-to-day lives used to be the highlight of my day as a kid. I inherited that love from my parents. So when my partner, a Google Maps nerd, zooms in and out of Maps, we grab our keys, put the kids in the car (human and cat), and get lost somewhere!! As a Local Guide, I get to share those “snippets of our lives” in the form of reviews with billions of people. I put forth good karma by sharing both positivity and calling out what needs to change, one genuinely honest review at a time, all while doing what we love — exploring!

4. My favorite thing to explore: I love exploring trails and conservation parks, historical ruins, museums, local thrift and gift shops, cozy cafes, bakeries, and restaurants in and around Toronto.

5. Fun fact about me: I am an absolute foodie! While traveling, my ideal state of existence is to have long conversations with my family. Typically with a crisp cup of my beverage of choice or while enjoying soulful food as we snugly sit in a restaurant overlooking the city, letting life wrap us up in awe.

Nice to meet you, Mona! Local Guides, don’t miss the chance to say hi to Mona in the comments below and to share your introduction, too.

Hello @InspiringCuriosity (Mona)

I had to smile when I read your description of your partner as a Google Maps nerd. There are quite a few here lol. In fact, I know of one or two others here from beautiful Toronto, Canada. Oh and there are also many foodies here on Connect.

Happy Connecting.

Thank you for much for the wishes!

I had this nickname in mind for yeeeeeeearrrrs as this is what my friends used to name my snippets about a place. It was never-ever available on any platform. Not even pre-2010 platforms.
Guess my stars aligned to match my favourite platform with the name I’ve always wanted

Name: Shola Bello

Location: Liberia(West Africa)

What I love about being a local guide: contributing to the maps, influencing my world and helping others. I enjoy editing and adding places on the maps. It makes me feel like Christopher coloumbus who discovered America. I have about a thousand five hundred edits and over 800 new places added in at least 3 countries in West Africa. Adding roads on the maps is my new found interest and I have drawn 2,177 roads. Aiming for 5k soon.

My favourite thing to explore: I love outings and having fun at places like Museums and tourist attractions. I especially love nature parks and natural sceneries.

Fun facts about me: For those who know me,am so fun to be with and take life easy. I tease a lot and love jokes. I love music so much.I make friends easily and love my friends.I enjoy interactions and hanging out which is so readily available on connect here. I speak English and French fluently. Learning Spanish but slow at it L  L.

Recent fun fact about me: I am a guiding star 2022 :star2:

Just to share this new photo of mine with connect showing my love and attraction for nature.

Happy march and happy guiding.

Cheers

I’m very new here and feel honoured and excited to join a community of people with such similar interests! It’s mind blowing just how much I can experience and learn by reading posts about localities and cultures shared from the pov of Local guides here. Makes the yearning to explore more so much stronger! Thank you once again. I truly am grateful!

Hi! Thank you for the welcome note!

Level 10 sounds like an all star profile. I have so much respect for contributors like yourself. Mapping areas of a country that’s a “continent” is really something! My partner and I have had Africa in our list for almost a year now. Hopefully soon :crossed_fingers:

Some of my friends have given us a soulful taste of vegetarian Nigerian and Ghanaian food and we have been a fan since! The African cuisine uses spices (not just red chilly) so much like we use in our Indian cuisine and that brought us closer to realizing just how intertwined cultures can be.
Also, congratulations on being the guiding star of 2022 :+1:
