“International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the economic, political and social achievements of women past, present and future. The United Nations theme for International Women’s Day 2021 is: ‘Women in leadership: Achieving an equal future in a COVID-19 world’.
A little known fact about me is that I love to be creative. When I finished school I studied art and design at university and college and loved every second of it. These days, art is just a hobby and for fun. Recently, I have tried my hand at digital drawings on my iPad Pro which I find really fun and cool. You can see some of my digital art here.
My local city council sent an email about their annual “International Women’s Day Art Prize” so I thought I would enter one of my digital drawings which I had printed onto perspex.
This fun and whimsical drawing is of a little girl holding a green bucket and playing in the sand. Sienna has a hand drawn rainbow and sun being held over her head from the perspective of the viewer, indicating hope and happiness for her future
I had the opportunity to view my artwork on display during the award ceremony of Randwick City Council’s International Women’s Day Art Prize exhibition at the Randwick Community Centre. It was so cool to be surrounded by so many talented women of all ages in my local area.
A day after the award ceremony, I received an email from Randwick City Council congratulating me and letting me know my artwork had been selected amongst the “Best of the Exhibition”. That was so cool and made me really happy.
“Thank you for entering the International Women’s Day Art Prize for 2021. Congratulations! Randwick City Council would like to invite you to exhibit your artwork as part of the continued exhibition at the Bowen Library Gallery until Friday 30 April 2021. Your entry has been chosen by this year’s judge, Tesha Malott, to be part of the, ‘Best of the Exhibition’ at the Bowen Library."
The exhibition at the Bowen Library Gallery opens on Tuesday 16 March until Friday 30 April. The address of the Gallery is: Lionel Bowen Library, 669/673 Anzac Parade, Maroubra NSW Australia.
You are amazing @PennyChristie , this is new insight for me that along with a enthusiastic Local Guide and an Accessibility Champion, you are a wonderful artist and an art lover.
Many congratulations that your art work is selected for exhibition.
Wow, a BIG congratulations @PennyChristie . I like how you’ve turned Shadow into Sienna and say you should write a post here about “digital art”. I’m sure that many budding creatives here would be interested to learn more! @AdrianLunsong is teaching us how to cook and @PaulPavlinovich is teaching us how to take better photos so why doesn’t @PennyChristie teach us how to create art digitally
Great idea @AdamGT !! I had an “arts and crafts” virtual meet-up organised by @Gurukrishnapriya and that was super fun! That meet-up certainly brought back a lot of good memories of my art classes in school and the fun that comes with being creative!
First of all I would like to congratulate you @PennyChristie for your artwork being selected as one of the best .
Loved to read that you have studied art and design at university. Really you are very creative. I am an Art and Craft teacher and I have the opportunity to interact with students more than any other subject teachers. My hobby became my profession.
Yes as @AdamGT mentioned you could teach us digital art. If so please do intimate me and I will join for sure.
Thanks @AdrianLunsong for remembering me and my meet-up. I was very very happy that you all made the star wand.
Oh wow @AdamGT thank you for your great comment and suggestion to teach digital art to our fellow Local Guide friends. That’s such a great idea. I will look into how I can do that
These arts and crafts lessons sound like such a cool idea @AdrianLunsong I have so many ideas flooding through my mind right now. I just need to work out the technical side of things now. I might have to message you for advice
Thank you so much @Gurukrishnapriya I’m glad you were tagged here. I will put my creative thinking cap on and work out how to do some art lessons online. I will definitely need some advice from @AdrianLunsong and @PaulPavlinovich who are the kings of live streaming
