This is my first post in a while. Is there any change in everyone? This time I would like to introduce a zoo in Tokyo.
When you think of a zoo in Tokyo, the one that comes to mind is probably Ueno Zoo.
Ueno Zoo is a zoo operated and managed by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, where you can see rare animals that do not normally live in Japan, such as giant pandas, elephants, polar bears, and gorillas.
However, on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays, it is often very crowded and you have to wait in line to see the animals you are looking for. Did you know that there is another zoo in Tokyo where you can observe animals up close without the crowds?
The zoo I would like to introduce you is Inokashira Park Zoo located in Musashino City, Tokyo. To get to Inokashira Park Zoo, take the Chuo Line from Tokyo Station, get off at Kichijoji Station, and walk to south-west about 10 minutes from the station.
I visited Inokashira Park Zoo on October 7th when I was participating in a photography class to take pictures of animals held at this zoo, and it was such a wonderful zoo.
At this zoo, you can observe animals such as squirrels, meerkats, guinea pigs, goats, fennec foxes, Japanese serows, Tsushima leopard cats, maras, porcupines, capybaras, and penguins up close without lining up.
In particular, the squirrels can be seen through wire mesh, but also able to enter the facility called the squirrel path and observe them running around and eating food up close, which is very cute. You can also interact with guinea pigs. I think it’s a great experience, especially for small children to learn about the importance of life and about animals.
In addition, at the aquatic garden located on the opposite side of the road, you can observe Japanese native freshwater fish such as carassius, oncorhynchus masou masou, zacco platypus through the glass aquarium. You can also observe wild birds such as night herons, gray herons, and black-crowned geese through the wire mesh, from the shore of the pond, or from the pier.
Although I wasn’t able to photograph it, it seems that you can see kingfishers near the pond.
Be sure to visit Inokashira Zoo park, where you can enjoy watching animals without having to wait in line.
