Indian Independence Day and some interesting facts - TravellerG

Dear LG friends,

Before starting the post, can I request you to kindly share, ‘How do you celebrate your Independence Day?’

India celebrated our 74th independence day on 15th August 2020. I was fascinated to note that there are other five more countries which also have their independence day on August 15th - I came to know about this from a local newspaper.

(Note: Some countries have their Independence Day & National Day celebrations on different dates.)

So I was inquisitive to know more about independence day & did some research on Google - I found it interesting and thought of sharing my findings with you all - here are some of them…

  1. The following are the 6 countries who are sharing their independence day on August 15th:
  2. Bahrain
  3. Congo
  4. India
  5. Liechtenstein
  6. North Korea
  7. South Korea

(Alphabetically arranged)

  1. Although the independence day of Bahrain is on August 15th, they celebrate their National day on December 16th.

  2. Here are the names of the 28 countries along with the date, who share the Independence day in the month of August and celebrate it on the same day, (except Bahrain).

  1. Is it right that there are no National Days for Britain and Denmark?
  2. Britain, Russia, and France do not celebrate their Independence Day - is this true?_EDIT: We started to celebrate Independence Day from 12.06.1990 - reply by @helga19 _
  3. Are there other countries who not celebrate Independence Day?

Can anyone of you throw more light on this information?

In a very simple paragraph, how India celebrates Independence day:
In India on Independence Day, our President delivers the ‘‘Address to the Nation’’ and Prime Minister hoists the national pride Tricolour Flag at the Lahori Gate of Red Fort (Delhi) every year, followed by different programmes. Independence Day parade by the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force at Red Fort is another very important event.

And every state celebrates the event with pride, showcasing their local Culture, Traditions, Achievements, etc.

Recent photos of Indian Republic day celebrated on 26th January 2020 at Chennai, Tamil Nadu. (We celebrate Independence Day & Republic Day separately)

Photos 3 and 4 are my favorites.

This is an informative Post.

The other countries that do not celebrate Independence do not celebrate because they were never under “Colonial rule”.

Nigeria’s independence is on the 1st of October, 2020 @TravellerG

Hi @TravellerG , I love to learn everyday something new, just that I did with your post.

In Venezuela we have two important days regarding to our independence: La Declaración de la Independencia (april 19th) and La Firma del Acta de Independencia (July 5th). So, our National Day, is commemorated on July 5th and the President of the Republic and a representation of the Venezuelan Armed Forces present their honor to the father of the country (Simón Bolívar) with a military demostration and other ceremonies.

Yes, annually it is a single day celebration, although the preparations take weeks.

However, we celebrate Indian Republic Day on the 26th of January every year -

The Constitution of India officially came into force & India became an independent republic, on 26th Jan 1950.
