Incredible Ice Sculptures at the Ice Festival

Yup, seems we’re having similar winters. There have been Februarys when we’d have a day out two that were warm and sunny. But I’ve never experienced one like this. It’s definitely saving on travel money to Florida haha!

Enjoy the warmth :sun_with_face:

A great share @Mikeinthefalls . All pieces are amazing but I especially liked the classic locomotive carved from large blocks and the bald eagle.Have you ever watched an Ice Sculptor at work @Mikeinthefalls ? It really is fascinating to watch it happening.

Wow wow wow, awesome and amazing pictures of ice sculptures. Thanks for sharing @Mikeinthefalls . Am curious, how long did it took for them to melt away? That’s the place to visit by the time I plan for traveling.

The Wienermobile is cool - I wonder how many they have, or if it was the same one I encountered previously…

Nice job my friend @Mikeinthefalls

Love the photos you shared, especially the unicorn ice sculpture.

I can almost smell the delicious smells from the part that you wrote “smoked BBQ sandwiches or freshly popped kettle corn.” It was nice to read they had good food to eat as well.

Thanks for appreciating this post @AdamGT

Yes - I was most impressed by the large locomotive carving, as well! I felt it was worthy of the feature photo for the post, based on it’s size, design and attention to detail. There was a contest to vote for your favorite and I have to say that I voted for the hockey player :ice_hockey: While he was one of the smaller sculptures, I really enjoyed how realistic he was.

We were able to see them being carved and I agree, Adam, that the work is truly fascinating. To be able to start with blocks of ice and create something so beautiful requires a talent I wasn’t blessed with lol.

Thanks for sharing those photos, I really like fish and seaweed sculpture! :tropical_fish:

I’m so glad that you enjoyed my post about the awesome ice sculptures @Diplomat_Peter

I am not certain how long these ice sculptures lasted? I do know that they were melting pretty quickly in the afternoon sun and that it was even warmer, the next day. In a typical winter, I’ve seen some last a week. I feel as those these maybe made it another day or two, at best. If I can get an answer I’ll update you!

@Reymono Wow, you were fortunate enough to get the mini Wienermobile in a photo! That’s cool! Where was this taken?

It’s my understanding that they have 6 Wienermobiles and each is responsible for a region of the US/North America. The young ladies that staff this one were covering Ohio and Pennsylvania, currently.

@AZ_2021 Thanks for commenting and appreciating. :hugs: I’m glad you had a favorite!

I thought the unicorn looked really cool with the sun and blue sky reflecting in it’s ice.

That’s funny you mention the smells… They were almost as amazing as the ice sculptures! The park is located on a hill and the food vendors were on the streets leading up to it, so all the aromas were making their way to that central location. We left with 2 bags of kettle corn  but passed on the BBQ that day. We did sample some great local wines that day and also picked up some to bring back.

@Mikeinthefalls It was in Chicago I encountered the wieners - pre-pandemic. I think they were giving out free hotdogs - I didn’t have time to line up unfortunately. Enjoyed your ice photos - hope it wasn’t too cold to be out.
