Incorrect Dish Names

I would like to know if I can correct or over ride an incorrect or removed dish name from my photos.

Here are just 3 examples that have been changed incorrectly in the last 2 weeks.

the image above was taken in mantua last year and is what it says on my screenshot, not Sea Bass with pumpkin sauce as it is now named.

this image is what is written in the screenshot and taken in la Bulla a few weeks ago, not the tuna in shiso leaves

this image is most certainly suckling pig and was featured on the menu photos of taberna Miguel for months until it was incorrectly renamed as pato.

Any assistance in correcting this would be greatly appreciated by this pedant :+1:

Hi @D1922

To correct dish names on the Google Maps app:

  1. Search for the place or tap it on the map.
  2. Tap Menu and then the dish you want to change.
  3. Tap Suggest an edit.
  4. Choose Wrong dish name

@AdamGT thanks for the info, I have been able to do that with the dish from la Bulla but the one from taberna Miguel is no longer in the menu and the dish from mantua has been included in with other dishes that are similar and I do not want to change other posters photos.

Hi @D1922

It’s great that you have been able to use the suggested procedure to correct the dish from la Bulla. You need to be aware that unlike photo captions, where each Local Guide can add and edit their own unique caption to each of their own photos, for obvious reasons the Google Maps AI system groups all photos by all users of the same dish together with the same dish name! In this way, when you change a dish name you in fact change that name for all those same dish photos and not just your own photo! Therefore, should anyone suggest an edit to a dish’s name and that edit it is approved then all those individual photos in the group will be changed to have that same name! So all you can do is suggest the dish name and the Google AI will approve your edit or otherwise and should the establishment’s menu be available will likely take that into account!! Therefore, I would suggest that to increase your approval success, you should name your dishes according the the establishment’s menu!

The issue with Mantua, is that it is a restaurant that serves taster menus and it changes frequently with the season and availability of products. The dishes are similar but not the same and my hunch is that all of the other dishes are correctly named but mine has been moved into the menu, as it looks similar.

As it stands the dish will remain wrongly named, as will the others unless there is a way to resolve this

Thanks again for taking the time to explain

There are two ideas form @lakeoftea that you may want to support, both related to menus and dish names:

I understand the point you are making @D1922 and I have seen some incorrectly named dish items myself. You might like to suggest an improvement to the dish naming system for such situations by posting in the Idea exchange? In the meantime, I also refer you to this thread about naming dishes.

Hello @D1922 ,

As I can see on Maps, the suckling pig, the fish soup and the avocado canalon are correctly named. Where do you see the wrong names? Can you send us screenshots?

This is the dish from la Bulla which I renamed correctly a short while ago. It is still showing the incorrect name but I expect it will take some time

thanks for all of your assistance, as I will be offline for some time and will respond tomorrow

@ErmesT I’m seeing that you have replied to Donald Trump! Perhaps your reply needs an edit

Edited: I’ve just discovered that this is due to having translation set :disappointed: I didn’t think translation would change LG names !!!

The difference between what you see in the profile, @Giu_DiB , and what you see in the dish name, is due to the fact that the dish is tagged and have a caption. While dishes are grouped by the AI in the menu tab (and have a common name), the caption is specific for each photo, and can be changed individually by the author.

I gave to @D1922 a detailed explanation of the difference between tag and caption, and the function of the tag, on my replies in his previous post (this one seems to be the continuation).

@D1922 is correct about the fact that it is not possible to edit the “dish name” in your photo and, once it has been grouped in a menu item, with the edit you will change the name of all the dishes grouped in there. As there is a recent idea with a proposal to fix this issue, I believe @D1922 should support the idea and contribute in there.

Actually Maps is not offering this edit option, that would be very helpful
