Inappropriate and Fake Location Found During Cambodia Mega Edit Marathon

During our recent Cambodia Google Maps Mega Edit Marathon on August 3, 2025, we discovered a disturbing issue that needs Google’s attention. view recap :

Recap: [In-Person] Cambodia, August 03, Cambodia Google Maps Mega Edit Marathon: Fix the Map, Help the Community

One of the fake locations we found is named:
បឿកមិនយកលុយ មិនប្រេីស្រោប

:backhand_index_pointing_right: This phrase translates to offensive and hateful language in Khmer, meaning:
“Free F*ck, don’t need condom”

:prohibited: This place:

  • Does not exist in real life
  • Violates Google Maps policies on offensive language and fake content
  • Is publicly visible and harmful to our community and youth

We have already reported it through “Suggest an edit” and flagged it as offensive. However, it is still visible on the map at the time of writing.

This is just 1 of more than 355 fake or inappropriate locations we found during our mapping cleanup effort in Phnom Penh.

355+ problematic listings identified and reported, including:

  • 255 places that do not exist
  • 63 confirmed spam locations
  • 15 with wrong coordinates
  • 9 tagged as “Data Not Found”
  • 4 bad reviews and 1 duplicate
  • Even a fake location called “Froptropica Embassy” was found and reported

:shield: We kindly ask Google to:

  1. Take immediate action to review and remove this and similar places.
  2. Strengthen filtering systems for offensive names, especially in local languages.
  3. Provide a better reporting and escalation system for Local Guides handling sensitive edits.

We do our best as volunteers to keep the map clean and safe for everyone. Please help us make sure this kind of content is removed quickly and cannot be added again.

Thanks to the Cambodia Local Guides team and all who joined this important mission.

I had joined the Cambodia Google Maps Mega Edit Marathon on August 3, 2025. I used all the options on Google Map to report as Mr. @SophatCHY mentioned in the same way, but it is still visible on the map.
Our request is a Permanent delete from the Google Maps.

I and the members of Cambodia Local Guide Connects will work on and make sure our contribution on Google Map is useful.

Can’t believe it is still there after a week or work @SophatCHY . I believe the word is not yet recognized as “offensive” (new word, nothing in the dictionary but known very well by local to mean f*ck ~ a very bad word)

Unfortunately things often don’t get fixed with the speed that we would like - this is certainly not the only example.

Allow me to tag Google Moderator @Ivi_Ge so this topic can be forwarded to the appropriate team.

Thanks so much for putting this together bong @SophatCHY. I’m honestly shocked by the scale of fake or inappropriate content you found—it’s really concerning to see this kind of thing still live on the map, especially with offensive names and places that don’t even exist.

I really appreciate how clearly you laid everything out, especially the numbers and the examples. It shows just how much effort you’ve put into cleaning things up, and I completely agree with your suggestions. Google definitely needs to act faster on sensitive content like this, especially when it’s harmful or misleading.

Also, the fact that over 350+ places were flagged is wild. That’s not a small problem—it’s a serious issue that affects the trust people have in Google Maps. I fully support your call for better filters, faster moderation, and a proper way for Local Guides to escalate serious cases like these.

Thanks again for all the work you’re doing. You’re making the map better for everyone.
