Ramadan always brings special moments, but this year I experienced something truly memorable - Iftar beside the Bay of Bengal in Teknaf, the southernmost tip of Bangladesh.
Currently, I am living in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar for my professional work, and every day I feel grateful to live so close to the sea. This coastline is part of Cox’s Bazar Sea Beach, the longest natural sandy sea beach in the world, stretching about 120 km (75 miles) along the Bay of Bengal. The beach runs continuously from Cox’s Bazar to Teknaf, offering breathtaking views of the ocean, sunsets, and coastal life.

During Ramadan, the beach transforms into something even more beautiful.
As sunset approaches, many people gather along different parts of the shore with friends, families, and loved ones to break their fast together while watching the sun slowly disappear into the horizon. The sound of the waves, the golden sky, and the cool sea breeze create an atmosphere that feels peaceful and spiritual.
This time, I visited the beach with some fellow Local Guides to enjoy Iftar together.
Around Teknaf Beach, several restaurants offer outdoor seating near the sea so visitors can enjoy their meals with an uninterrupted view of the ocean. At the same time, many families bring their own homemade food and set up simple picnic-style Iftar gatherings on the sand.
We decided to try a place called Open Air Restaurant, which offers beautiful seating arrangements right beside the beach. The environment was lively and welcoming, with groups of friends and families sharing the joy of Ramadan together.
While we waited for the Adhan (call to prayer), we enjoyed the gentle breeze coming from the Bay of Bengal and watched the sky turn shades of orange and gold as the sun slowly set.
Finally, the moment arrived.![]()
We broke our fast with dates, fresh juice, fruits, and a delicious plate of Beef Biryani (my personal favorite). Eating together by the sea made the experience feel even more special.
One touching moment during the evening was seeing a social foundation bring several children to the beach to share Iftar together. Watching them enjoy the evening reminded me of the true spirit of Ramadan - kindness, generosity, and brotherhood.
After finishing Iftar, we went to a nearby mosque to perform Maghrib Salah, and later returned to the restaurant to relax with a cup of coffee while enjoying the cool night breeze from the sea.
As night fell, the restaurant area lit up with decorative lights and colorful flags, creating a magical atmosphere along the coastline.

For anyone visiting Bangladesh during Ramadan, experiencing Iftar by the sea in Teknaf or Cox’s Bazar is something truly unique, a beautiful blend of nature, culture, and community.
