Well, in the City of Caguas, there is a still young place that may help you with that matter, El Jardin Botanico de Caguas.
Founded in 2007, by the Municipality of Caguas, was developed on the old San Jose Sugar Mill., dated from 19 century. With a total area of 61 acres, or approximately 230,000 s/f, you will enjoy a walk around the small lake, old ruins of the sugar mill house, and the renovated slave barrack. You can walk by yourselves or you can ask for a guided tour. They have also a small golf cars available to help you with the tour.
Only 30 min from the San Juan Hotel areas, they have a good and accessible parking area.

At the entrance, you will have access to the code for getting in your phone the map, and Garden information.
Once inside you will find on the main sidewalk the memorabilia of the Major of Caguas, who’s was the person that made this place possible.
This Botanical Garden provide a lot of places to walk in.
The open space design is segregated by cultural theme.

You can choose to walk on different trails hikes, each one giving you the beautiful and exotic tropical flora view of the Garden. Also each trail is oriented to a cultural heritage theme. African, Taino, Spanish. And the mix of them, that is what make us, the “Criollos” our Puerto Rican Heritage.

The Garden offer picnic tables, a small cafeteria, and there is a total of 6 restroom next to the entrance and the barracon building.
When walking to the small lake you will find one of the ruin that are on the site.
On the other side you will find othe ruin to appreciate.
Also inside this building you can visit a small room with Taino Arqueological examples.
You can walk at your own pace and enjoy the view of the lake and walk trou the bridge in order to get to the other side of the Garden. See the turtles,ducks on the lake.
As you move from trail to trail, you will find more Caribbean flora, art work, and the Caguitas stream.
There is a lot of walking area in this, Garden. Once a year the Boys Scouts use the Garden to do and practice camping. Also the Garden is available for private activities, like Weddings, and Companies picnic.
