Idea words to describe the flavor of coffee

When people talk about coffee, 80 percents is about its flavor. Do you know there are many ways to describe its flavor than “delicious cup of coffee”, “great coffee”, “specialty blend”, and etc? Someone like me? When I had a cup of coffee I often had no idea to describe how its flavor is? However, I have my favorite flavor and sometimes I would like to know more specify description from reviews before going to the coffee shop. I think it will be better if we have stocks of the words, that it would help you descriptive writing for your coffee review.

When you have a cup of coffee, recommend to consider it step by step, it will make you easier to define what flavor you got. For example, I think of nuts when I had a cup of coffee, and it is nearly the chocolate, then finally I got that coffee flavor could describe as bitter chocolate.

Coffee flavor

1. The flavor that makes you think of nuts

  • Chocolate: bitter chocolate, chocolate, milk chocolate
  • Nuts: almond, hazelnut, peanut
  • Spices: non-spicy spices, spicy spices

2. The flavor that makes you think of fruits

  • Citrus fruits: lemon, grapefruit, orange

  • Berries: raspberry, blueberry, blackberry

  • Tropical fruits: kiwi, mango, banana, passion fruit, pineapple, papaya

  • Apple: apple, green apple

3. The flavor that makes you think of others

  • Floral: jasmine, rose, violet

More than writing a review, I believed you will be able to taste coffee more knowledgeable if you understand the terms used to describe its flavor. After reading my article I hope you more enjoy your coffee time than before.

Finally, my favorite flavor is a group of nuts. What is yours?

Hi @Sutha_in_Japan ,

I am definitely a fan of any coffee with a strong berry flavor or chocolate. I am a huge fan of Ethiopian coffee from the Yirgacheffe region which is some of the cleanest and smooth-tasting coffee I’ve ever had.
