Idea: Trend chart for Google Maps reviews β€Œβ€ŒπŸ“ˆ

Hello Local Guides,

I had an idea about Google Maps that I wanted to share. Our world is getting more complicated, so, we need more complex information to evaluate our choices. This also applies to Google Maps reviews. We make a decision about visiting a place or not basically based on a number: the review score. Of course, this is important as it gives a first impresion, however, it is not enough.

Let’s suppose that we have two similar restaurants that have a review score of 4.3 each. The first restaurant used to be a great place with amazing quality the previous year and its score was 4.8, but this year they lowered the quality and got many 3-star reviews. On the other side, the second place had an average of 3.6 stars last year, but they read all the negative reviews and tried to improve their service. Eventually, they reached a 4.3 review score by the end of the year. We see that according to their review score the two restaurant seem the same, however, we have two completely different situations.

I thought that a trend chart of the review score (I made an improvised picture of how it could look like), could provide this extra information to the user and illustrate a more close to the reality perspective.

I know that the Idea Exchange section is down, however I wanted the opinions of other local guides on this topic. Feel free to share your thoughts!

Thanks a lot! :muscle:

Interesting idea, @giannisandrianakis

I think Google has chosen a slightly different way to make better metrics based on the star ratings. This was explained recently, in a video presentation. Please see items 5 and 6 in this post-,News%20%235%3A,-Structured%20reviews%20(see).

All the best and thanks for sharing your idea.

Thanks for your answer @MortenCopenhagen

I am aware of the new metrics Google introduced in Maps, and they are quite helpful. My proposal suggests a different approach in the presentation of data that is already there. To be more clear, each review is already associated with a date, so, if for example I, as a user, want to see myself what reviews are more recent relatively to others, I can do it. If a place has many 1 :woman_singer: reviews the last months and an average of let’s say 4.2, that means the average used to be higher.
