Hi everyone, and dear Google Maps Team,
As a dedicated Local Guide, I spend a lot of time writing authentic, detailed, and honest reviews to genuinely help travelers, customers, and local businesses. I believe in calling out the truth—praising what is right and pointing out what is wrong.
However, I feel there is a significant gap between our virtual efforts and real-world recognition. While the current stars, points, and level system look great on a mobile screen, they hold zero weight in the real world. When we visit a restaurant, a dhaba, or any business, the owners have no idea about the value and impact of our feedback. Genuine reviewers do not get the real-world respect their time and effort deserve.
My Suggestion:
Google Maps should introduce an official “Verified Digital Reviewer ID Card” or a “Verified Blue Badge” exclusively for selected, consistently genuine, and top-contributing Local Guides.
Why this is a game-changer:
- Real-World Respect: It gives authentic reviewers the dignity and recognition they deserve from businesses (we don’t want money, just respect for our genuine work).
- Combating Fake Reviews: A verified ID/Badge will help ordinary users and business owners easily distinguish between real reviewers and fake/paid bots.
- Increased Responsibility: A verified status will motivate Local Guides to be even more responsible and provide high-quality, truthful feedback.
Thousands of hardworking Local Guides across the globe want their virtual dedication to translate into real-world respect. I request the community to support this idea and the Google Maps product team to consider implementing it.
Thank you!
