🌿 Idea: Green Season Challenge — What Do You Think?

Hi Local Guides! :waving_hand:

I have a small idea and would love to get your suggestions before developing it further.

In Cambodia, the rainy season is also our beautiful green season. :herb::cambodia: Rice fields become green, waterfalls come alive, mountains and forests look different, and many places are especially beautiful during this time.

It made me think: Could we create a Green Season Challenge together with Local Guides from different countries? :globe_showing_asia_australia:

The idea could be to encourage Local Guides to explore and share beautiful places during the green/rainy season, while also making useful contributions to Google Maps.

But every country has a different season and different places to showcase, so I don’t want to set the rules by myself.

I would love your ideas:

  • :herb: Does your country have a green or rainy season?
  • :date: What months are best in your country?
  • :round_pushpin: What kind of places should we encourage people to explore?
  • :globe_showing_asia_australia: Should we have Local Guides helping lead the challenge in each country or region?
  • :light_bulb: What would make this challenge interesting and useful?

If there is enough interest, I’m thinking about organizing a small online brainstorming meet-up first, where we can collect ideas and build the challenge together.

This is only the beginning of an idea, so all suggestions are welcome.

Would you join or help shape a Green Season Challenge? :herb::globe_showing_asia_australia:

This is going to be a nice green challenge @SophatCHY Bhai. I think your challenge is applicable to most countries and will make local guides happy.

In my country, June and July are the two months that receive a lot of rainfall, and we choose these two months for the tree plantation program.Cropland, mountains, and forests all become evergreen.

This is a photo taken in the rice fields of my village 5 years ago.

Some of the forests in our area are very beautiful. I am always ready to show those places to other local guides.

@SophatCHY Your idea is fantastic; it would have been great to connect with you. Seeing the photos you shared made me long to be out in nature I felt as though I was lost in its beauty for a while. I wish you continued success; I truly enjoy seeing your posts.

@SophatCHY
I really like this idea! :herb::cloud_with_rain:

In Sudan :sudan:, the rainy season completely transforms many landscapes. Mountains, valleys, grasslands, and natural areas become greener and more beautiful, creating a great opportunity for Local Guides to document places that may look very different during the dry season.

I think the Green Season Challenge could be a wonderful way to encourage Local Guides around the world to explore nature, share authentic photos, add useful information to Google Maps, and highlight lesser-known destinations.

Sudan could definitely be part of this challenge. :snow_capped_mountain::seedling::sudan:

I would be happy to participate and share some of Sudan’s beautiful green-season landscapes. Great idea!

Hi @SophatCHY,

Great idea! In India, the monsoon season from June to September is the greenest and most beautiful time. Having Local Guides lead the challenge in different countries will definitely make it more successful. I am fully ready for the online meeting.

Great topic bong, Rebranding Cambodia’s rainy season into the ‘Green Season’ allows us to promote eco-tourism, sustainable travel, and hidden rural gems. By leveraging the Local Connect platform, we can empower local communities to share authentic, rain-kissed Cambodian landscapes directly with global travelers.
