Iconic San Francisco Landmarks on Maps #GoogleMapsIconChallenge

Thanks to @TusharSuradkar for starting this #GoogleMapsIconChallenge link to his post here. Looks like this feature is available on select cities. I was able to find 6 of them in San Francisco. Nothing as yet in my hometown of Mysore in India. Here are the Iconic landmarks on Google Maps and links to them.

  1. Coit Tower

  2. Alcatraz Island

  3. Ferry Building

  4. de Young Museum

  5. The Painted Ladies

  6. The Palace of Fine Arts

Also thanks to @Globe_trotter_Ish inspiring me to write a post on this challenge, with her fantastic post!

Since I am an official tour guide for the relatives visiting me in bay area, I have visited and captured them numerous times.

Nice collage @jayasimha78

Surprisingly the Golden Gate bridge is not having an icon :open_mouth:

And you are not alone in not finding your favorite place without the icons.

Pune and Ahmedabad also do not have icons for even a single place.

Also, could you link back to my article from within your post?

Wow… the pictures are amazing @jayasimha78 and the icons too give a good idea about the place to visit ! This icons feature is really good specially for tourists who know which are the places they must visit in that city. You are right , however the feature is not yet present foe all the cities; I guess the big cities have them currently. I didnt kniw you are from Mysore ! I love Mysore and have been there so many times when we were in Bengaluru! Mysore has its own peace and tranquility. Its a city with so many historical sites tp visit amd is beautifully decorated during dasara ! Thanks for brinhing back beautiful memories of Mysore! Thank you for mentioning my challenge post. I am glad you found my post inspiring .Thanks to @TusharSuradkar for starting the challenge !

Agree with you @Globe_trotter_Ish

Cities with several places of historic importance like Mysuru, Pune, Ahmedabad should have icons.

Comparatively, Chicago doesn’t have anything other than the Willis Tower and the Cloud Gate where they have included regular places like museums and art institutes

In New York, the icons are mostly skyscrapers

Very cool @jayasimha78 ! I just realized I didn’t visit SF at all last year due to covid. Reading your post makes me want to take the BART and visit some (if not all) of these places soon.

I saw this after seeing @TusharSuradkar 's idea about adding markers to Pune - I had never seen this before, Melbourne has two - I can certainly think of a whole lot of others that should be there. I guess they’re landmarks of history?

I would think Melbourne Cricket Ground (MGC) would be the Melbourne landmark, and Flinders Street Station followed by The State Library and Melbourne Museum not to mention Birrurrung Marr as the most famous of our historic landmarks.

Even with only a few icons in place, you qualify to take the challenge.

If you have the bandwidth, jump in and show you are a proudMelburnian

Oh those places are most definitely on Maps @TusharSuradkar they’re just not shown with icons like this.

That is right @PaulPavlinovich

They have now added an extra icon and the challenge is to share a screenshot to highlight places from your city of a favorite place.
